Baccarat and Mini-Baccarat: “Bond, James Bond.”
by Wilson of Predictem.com
When most people think of elaborate and elegant gambling they flash to several scenes from a variety of James Bond films. Bond was famous for his smooth, classy demeanor while participating at casino table games. The average person assumes that Baccarat is a high-roller’s game where only the extremely wealthy and prestigious can play. On the contrary, anyone can play Baccarat as it’s actually one of the easiest games to learn.
Baccarat (pronounced bah-ca-rah) was first invented in the 1500's by the French who apparently didn’t have anything else to do. In other European countries the game is referred to as chemin de fer.
The game is played in high limit areas within the casino. It’s an easy game but because of the high minimum wagers it separates itself from other casino table games. The usual minimum bet is twenty dollars a hand.
The casinos wanted to expand the game to attract more players, so they developed a different version of the game and called it Mini-Baccarat. Mini-Baccarat is basically the same game as Baccarat but it’s played at a different style table, and has a much lower minimum bet; usually five dollars a hand.
Both Baccarat and Mini-Baccarat have a low casino house advantage. As part of the game a player must make a bet either for the player, the banker or a tie. That’s it, yes, there is more involved, but really, that’s the least a player needs to know to get started.
Although many people shy away from the Baccarat tables and or areas in a casino, they should give it a try. Baccarat is much easier to learn than Blackjack, Craps, or Poker. A player does not need to know a specific strategy, or how to count cards- all they need to do is bet for the banker, the player or a tie.
Most Baccarat tables will fit up to fifteen players, but Mini-Baccarat tables usually will seat around six or seven players. In most casinos there will be a designated area roped off and identified as a Baccarat room or Mini-Baccarat area.
There are usually six to eight decks of cards used to play. There are only two hands dealt, one to the dealer and one to the player. Both hands are dealt next to each other face up.
In Baccarat the hand that totals nine points or closest to nine is the winner. Thus, aces are worth one point and all tens and face cards are worth zero. The remainder of the cards are worth their numbered value. For example, if you bet on the banker and the dealer dealt you an ace and an eight you would have a total of nine points which is also called a natural (a two card score of 8 or 9 off the deal). If you were dealt a King and a three you would have a total of three points as the King is worth zero.
As you can see, the game of Baccarat is quite simple to play. James Bond always makes simple things appear sophisticated and high class, but Baccarat and Mini-Baccarat can be played by anyone who wants to take a chance! There are simple strategies of tracking the banker’s wins vs. the player’s wins, but that’s another article. For now, you know all you need to know as far playing the game- give it try and see how easy it is to make money! Luck to ya.
