Basic Blackjack Strategy

Basic Blackjack Strategy
by Jason Green of Predictem.com

To increase the your edge in Blackjack over the casino there are a few simple rules that you should follow. Blackjack is a table game that has many strategies. This strategy is a basic one and is one that all beginner Blackjack players should follow. With following this basic Blackjack strategy you can increase your chance of winning and more importantly increase your chance of walking out of the casino with more cash in your pocket then when you came in.

Basic Blackjack Strategy

- If you have a 9 or lower you should hit. Even if the dealer has an up card that is a 6 or lower (meaning they have to hit) there is no way you can bust by taking one more card.
- If you have a 10 or 11 you should double down unless the dealers up card is the same value or above your cards. For example if you have a 10 or 11 and the dealer is showing a 10, face card, or Ace do not take another card. You still have a good chance of winning by taking another card but the chance of the dealer not having a 10, face card, or Ace as their down card is not great enough for you to lose twice as much money by doubling down.
- If you have a 12 -16 you should hit, but only when the dealerís up card is 7 or higher. If the dealerís up card is a 6 or lower you should never hit because the dealer must take another card increasing the chance of them busting.
- If you have 17 or higher you should stand, no matter what the dealer is showing with their up card.

Basic Blackjack Strategy for Soft Hands

A soft hand in Blackjack is any hand that has an Ace and uses it as an 11 and not 1. For example a soft 18 means an Ace and a 7. These are all tips to follow if you have a soft hand.

- If you have a soft 13-18 you should double down when the dealer has an up card that is a 5 or a 6.
- If you have a soft 17 or lower you should hit.
- If you have a soft 18 you should hit when the dealerís up card is a 6 or less. You should stand when the dealerís up card is a 7 or more.
- If you have a soft 19 or higher you should stand.

Basic Blackjack Strategy for Pairs

Many people get excited when they get pairs in Blackjack and far too often people split them when they shouldnít. These are some tips to follow if you have a pair.

- If you have a pair of Aces or 8ís you should always split.
- Never split if you have a pair of 10ís, 4ís or 5ís.
- When the dealer is showing an up card of 6 or less split all other pairs.
