Blackjack: Tips and Hints
by Wilson of Predictem.com
Blackjack is possibly the most popular game in the modern casino as many people think it’s the easiest of all the table games to play. Hey, all you have to do is count to 21, right? Well, that may be true but blackjack is a little more complex than simply possessing the skill to add up to 21. There are a ton of situations in which players who know the card probability can heavily increase their chances of winning. But if you’re just starting out as a rookie player here are a few bits of advice that may help you win a few bucks and enjoy the game.
Always remember that you only have to beat the dealer. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking they have to get as close to 21 as possible. This is a great idea, but if the dealer’s up-card is a 4, 5, or 6 all you’ll likely need to win is a 17 as in most cases the dealer will have a ten card underneath and his chances of busting (going over 21) are higher.
Find a table with a minimum bet amount that is in your financial range. For example, if you take a “C’ note ($100) with you to the casino you’ll probably not want to play at a $25 table or higher. With $100 bankroll your best move would be to find a table with a $5 minimum or less as this will allow you some staying power. Simply look for a “red” label as this indicates a $5 table in most casinos.
Look for a table that allows the player to double down on any two cards, and also requires the dealer to stand on a soft 17 (ace and 6).
Always split aces. Always split 2’s or 3’s against a 4, 5, or 6. Always split 8’s or 7’s against a dealer’s card of the same or less value.
Never split 10’s. Never split face cards. Never split 5’s.
Take a hit (card) on any hand less than 17 if the dealer is showing an ace, K, Q, J, 10, 9, or 8.
Stand on any hand that equals 11 or higher when the dealer is showing a 4, 5, or 6.
Double down with if you have 10 and the dealer is showing 9 or lower.
Always double down if you have an 11.
Never buy insurance!
Double down if you have a 9 or a soft hand of 13 through 17 against a 4, 5, or 6.
Tip your dealer about every twenty hands if you’re doing well as they are providing you a service and they usually work very hard. I usually toss out a $5 chip as a side bet. You simply place the chip in front of your bet and the dealer’s tip will double if you win. You can also wait and tip the dealer when you leave.
Blackjack can be a very rewarding game but it is not a game you can win at consistently unless you are very strict and know when to walk away. One more bit of advice; never worry about the other players at the table as sometimes other players think your actions result in their losses- this is not the case. It’s every player for themselves and all you have to do is have more points than the dealer. Luck to ya.
