The Winning Table

Blackjack: The Winning Table
by Wilson of Predictem.com

One of the greatest experiences for blackjack players is the vision of success as soon as they sit down at the "winners" table. In today's busy and often congested casinos it's hard enough to find an open seat at a blackjack table, especially a winning table! What does a winning table look like? Let's investigate some common signs that you may be sitting at a special "winner, winner, chicken dinner" table.

I remember one of my favorite trips to Las Vegas. In 1990 The Mirage had recently opened and set the pace for what is now a collection of super casinos and resorts on the Vegas Strip. Of course with Goliath casinos came more gaming tables. Ah, but which one of those tables was a winning table? I walked back and forth several times looking for a spot at a table when I noticed a dealer who appeared to be more relaxed than the others, and actually conversing with the players. Yes, there was one spot open and I jumped right in. After two hours I had won eighty dollars! I credit the dealer for not being stuffy and greeting the players with a smile and pleasant conversation.

Now, we all know that a skilled black player who practices strict basic strategies and card counting techniques is generally the player who has the best chance to win. However, there are several veteran players who strongly believe there is something to be said about the atmosphere at a table, regardless of all their skills.

Some players will walk into a casino and look for a dealer who appears to be low on chips as this may indicate that the dealer is indeed not doing well. A dealer who is paying out more chips than they are collecting might be just the right dealer for you! Hey, it's ok to take advantage of any situation that could put more cash in your pocket.

Other players will look for the contagiously loudest table where players are going crazy high five'in each other after every turn of the cards. Of course this kind of celebrating table usually means players are making money. The only trouble with this kind of table is simply finding a seat as nobody wants to leave a winning table! The pit bosses will likely notice if a table is on a huge winning streak and this is when the casinos will attempt to kill the streak by switching dealers or changing decks of cards; don't panic if you get a new dealer, just be cautious.

Does it really matter if the dealer is friendly or not? Technically, with an honest dealer, it doesn't matter if they say hello, or never make eye contact with a player while dealing the cards. But many would disagree with the previous statement as it's tough to enjoy a sunny day with a dark cloud lingering. Personally, I believe it's all in the attitude. The more positive you are as a player the more likely you will succeed. It's almost like the game of golf; a positive player usually takes the purse in the end.

Blackjack is definitely a game of skill, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with seeking out a positive table. Remember to look for your own comfort zone as it truly makes the game more enjoyable as well as profitable. Never be hesitant to leave a "bad" table. There is a saying I use when I lose on two consecutive rounds or shoes of cards, "Two and BBQ" this simply means I need to leave and go get a bite to eat (preferably a BBQ sandwich). Luck to ya.
