The Top 10 Best Bets in the Casino
By Wilson of Predictem.com
Do you ever wonder why casino staff is so darn nice to their customers? Casino owners know that the average visitor has little knowledge of what bet is the best or what bet is the worst. Thus, the casinos thrive off of ignorant gamblers who think they must hit a streak of luck in order to win. Did you know that a Las Vegas visitor who stays 3 days at a hotel casino loses, on average, $325.00! As many as 38 million people visit Las Vegas annually, and if all lost $325.00Öthatís a pretty solid business!
The following advice will help you save money, and maybe even win money the next time you step onto a casino floor. The best wagers in a casino are usually the ones with the lowest house advantage. Basically the house advantage is the casinoís way of making sure they get their cut for hosting you and giving away the free drinks, dinners, and show tickets. Letís take a look at, arguably, the top ten best bets to make in a casino.
The Top 10 Best Bets:
Casino Poker - Poker is definitely the most popular casino game running right now in the United Sates as well as around the world. The casino makes very little money from poker as players are competing against each other while the house takes a tiny percentage from each pot. As you could imagine, most casinos are very accommodating to veteran and novice poker players. If youíve never played in a casino donít stress about it. The best thing you can do is simply ask questions and the staff will gladly help you out. The most popular poker games to play are Texas Holdíem and Omaha, which is basically Texas Holdíem except you get four down cards but only two of those cards can be played in conjunction with only three of the five on the board.
For newcomers I would recommend jumping right into the action as itís the only way to get over any butterflies and doubts. Binnionís on Freemont Street in downtown Las Vegas is a great place to get your feet wet. They offer daily tournaments starting every hour as well as several cash games if you are on a schedule. The difference between a tournament and a cash game is in a tournament you pay a set amount for a buy-in ($20-$100 usually) and usually the top finishers spilt the pot with the majority going to the first place player. In a cash game you have the option of cashing in your chips when you need to leave. This means you are not committed to or required to play-out until all of the chips are in one playerís possession. For example, you could buy-in for $20 and in ten minutes win two pots and walk away a winner. †The best place to play online is Bovada Poker.
Blackjack Basic Strategy - Blackjack, by far, is one of the most popular casino games. Why is BJ so popular? If you can count to 21 you can play blackjack! Oh, only if it was that easy! Basic strategy simply helps a player make the correct decision based on the factors involved in the particular game. The particulars include number of decks and the rules of the game (as they vary from casino to casino). If basic strategy is used to perfection a player can lower the house edge to lower than one percent. By using the basic strategy a player is determining whether or not to hit (take a card), split (a pair) or stand.
Craps Passline and Come - The Passline and Come bets in craps offer a low house advantage. In most cases the house only has a 1.41 percent advantage. If a player wants to get the bet even lower they can take double odds on the bet which drops the house edge to just .61 percent. Check out our odds article for a more detailed explanation on how to bet it.
Blackjack Card Counting - Card counting is not illegal but people who practice this skill must be careful to not get caught as most casinos will black-book counters. The movie ď21Ē exploited one of the most successful card counting/blackjack systems ever established. If you can master counting cards you can give yourself a 1-2 percent edge over the casinos. The only place you will not get booted from while counting cards is in New Jersey, but they can make you flat bet or stop the deal and shuffle if they catch you.
Craps Donít Pass and Donít Come - If you like to bet with the shooter at the craps table then this bet will not be for you. However, if you donít mind being the party pooper and betting against the shooter and most of the other players then you can actually do pretty well on both of these wagers. In most casinos the house edge drops to 1.14 percent and if you lay double odds it will lower to .59 percent.
Video Poker - Here is another game in the casino that will offer a low house edge if the player makes the right decisions. There are some machines that offer as little as .5 or Ĺ percent to the house. The edge is factored out by the pay table posted on the machine. Players can figure out the payback by checking out the legend which is also posted on the game.
Baccarat Banker: -†This bet has a small house edge (1.06 percent) but it will cost you usually a five percent commission when you win as it is slightly lower than the playerís bet house edge.
Baccarat Player - The player bet is nearly as good as the banker but just a bit higher of a house edge at 1.24 percent. The worst bet in Baccarat is the tie bet, which is one of the worst bets you can make.
Craps Place 6 & 8 - This bet is one of my favorites to make on the craps table. Usually the house edge is 1.52 percent. Besides the 7, the 6 and 8 are the most commonly rolled numbers on the table as there are five ways to roll each number. If a shooter is hot and hitting a lot of 6ís and 8ís you can make good money by pressing on every other hit.
Pai Gow Poker - Pai Gow allows the player to choose to act as the banker during the game. As banker you are required to pay a five percent commission to the house. The bonus is that you win the bet of any player that you beat. It does require some know-how in playing the hands but a an educated player can grab the edge over the less educated opponent.
The next time you plan a trip to the casino make sure you have a plan as far as what games you plan to play. Itís easy to get caught up in all the bells and whistles of a casino, so write down your game-plan ahead of time at least that way you will know what to look for once you arrive.
