Offense
In 2006 the offense averaged 170 yards rushing (4.42 yards per rush) and
222 yards passing while scoring an average of 36.8 points per game. The
Longhorns were led by Freshman QB Colt McCoy in 2006 who was the National
and Big 12 freshman offensive player of the year. He threw for 2,570 yards
and 29 touchdowns to tie a national record for freshman QBs. The leading
rusher from 2006 also returns this year in Jamaal Charles who averaged 5.3
yards per carry. The group of receivers are being touted as the best ever
at Texas with Limas Sweed leading the way. Sweed had 41 receptions for 801
yards and 12 touchdowns last season.
Defense
In 2006 the defense gave up an average of 60 yards rushing (2.32 yards per rush) and 233 yards passing while giving up 17.8 points per game. The strength of the defense for 2007 will be up front with a great defense line and solid linebackers. The Longhorn defense should be very stingy against the run again this year but they must replace 3 starters in the defensive backfield.

Prediction
Most college football sportsbooks have the over/under on the season wins at 10 wins. The Longhorns should be able to remain undefeated in the non-conference. They have Oklahoma at a neutral site and play Nebraska at home. They travel to Texas A&M for the final regular season game and should be 11-0 or 10-1 at that point. We look for Texas to have an excellent chance of finishing at with at least 11 wins and call for a wager on over 10 wins for the 2007 season.
