Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders Preview and Pick

No. 8 Oklahoma State +3 (8-1) 8-0 ATS, 4-4 O/U at No. 2 Texas Tech Red Raiders -3 (9-0) 4-3 ATS, 4-3 O/U Saturday, November 8 Jones AT&T Stadium (52,882) Lubbock, Texas 12:30 p.m. EST

Perhaps one of the most anticipated game of the college football season took place last week in Lubbock and for good reason- it was an instant classic as the Texas Tech Red Raiders knocked off then No. 1 Texas Longhorns 39-33 on a last second (literally) touchdown pass. The win stunned Texas as they thought they had secured a victory after Colt McCoy led his team down the field for what appeared to be the game clincher.

Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell has probably never completed a more dangerous, but important pass in his football career than he did in the last 8 seconds of this epic game. Harrell connected with arguably the nation’s best wide receiver, Michael Crabtree, on a play they call “6” because it simply means they need to score- now! Crabtree grabbed the ball which was placed perfectly given the DB had his back to the QB, and slipped a usual routine tackle to glide into the end-zone for the win. Red Raider’s head coach, Mike Leach said, “Play 60 minutes, you may have a second to spare.” There was 1 second left on the clock after the TD.

The Red Raiders jumped out to a 19-0 lead and a 22-6 half-time advantage. The Longhorns finally got it going in the second half but despite their efforts it was Texas Tech that had the fans, the home field, and the story-book finish.

Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell recorded Heisman-like numbers as he was 36-of-53 for 474 yards and 2 TD’s including the game winner to Crabtree. Crabtree pulled in 10 catches for 127 yards and a TD, while his receiving partner Edward Britton had 7 receptions for 139 yards.

The Red Raiders and the Longhorns defenses combined to allow 69 points. I’m sure the film sessions were less than memorable for both teams defensively but you have to give credit to each offense and the amount of talent on the field- especially both QBs.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will come into Saturday’s game a 3-point dog but for those who like to wager it may be useful to know that they are 8-0 ATS. The Cowboys beat up on Iowa State last weekend 59-17.

The Cyclones were no match for the more dominant Cowboys as OSU QB Zac Robinson finished the game 18-of-27 for 395 yards and 5 TDs. Running Kendall Hunter had 13 carries for 104 yards and 1 TD. WR Dez Bryant scored 4 touchdowns, which brings him to 15 for the season.

Oklahoma State will need to adjust for the now No. 2 team in the nation as the Red Raiders are a scary team right now especially after their thrilling victory over the Longhorns. This game features two very solid QBs as well as two NFL bound wide receivers in Crabtree for Texas Tech and Bryant for the Cowboys. The Red Raiders defense will be primed to go after dealing with Texas last week.

Wilson’s Pick: Texas Tech is at home again for another big game! Oklahoma State is walking into a buzz saw this weekend- I don’t think the Red Raider fans even left the stadium-they’ve been there all week pre-funking for the next big win! I like Texas Tech to cover the points and win again at home. Luck to ya.
