Georgia Bulldogs vs. Auburn Tigers Preview and Pick

No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs (8-2) -9, 48 O/U at vs. Auburn Tigers (5-5) Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, A.L., 12:30PM Eastern, Saturday
By Jay Horne of predictem.com

The No. 10 ranked Georgia Bulldogs held off a scare from the Kentucky Wildcats a week ago by a score of 42-38. Georgia will most certainly receive another hard test this weekend from the Auburn Tigers. Auburn has had an extremely disappointing year and will be striving to salvage their season. The Tigers find the last two games of their season very difficult taking on two top ten teams. If Auburn was to lose these last two games, it would equal the worse season they have had since 1966. I believe they will give Georgia their best shot, but will it be enough?

Georgia still has an outside shot to go to a BCS bowl game, but a lot of things would have to happen. The Bulldogs however have a great chance to end the season at 10-2 and earn a very respectable bowl. Georgia has not played their best football in the last few weeks, but they still have a very strong team. The Bulldogs are averaging 32 points per game and if they can score that many against Auburn that could very well be enough considering the Tigers offense has struggled all season.

Auburn has not been able to score points this year and that has been their downfall. The Tigers only average 19.5 points per game ranking them in the bottom 30 teams in NCAA Football. Auburn is supported by a solid defense but just has not had the help they have needed from the offense. Defensively, Auburn is ranked in the top 30 in the NCAA ranks only allowing slightly over 300 yards per game. The Tigers also sport a top 15 ranked rush defense holding teams to only 102 yards per game on the ground. Auburn has the defense to play with any team; they just need the offense to find a spark.

Sportsbetting.com has the game listed with the Auburn Tigers being a 9 point underdog. Early betting action is showing the majority of the betting public nearly 90% is favoring the Georgia Bulldogs ATS. The over/under total for the match has been set at a mark of 48. Moneyline numbers have Georgia at -330 being the favorite and Auburn at +270.

Georgia QB Matthew Stafford has been the leader for the Bulldogs this season. Stafford is a pro-style quarterback that is gaining a lot of attention from NFL scouts. Stafford has thrown for a 60% completion percentage, with 2587 yards, 15 TDs and 8 picks on the season. Stafford has had some good receivers to throw to in AJ Green and Mohamed Massaquoi. Green has 46 catches for 806 yards and 6 TDs this season while Massaquoi has caught 41 passes for 669 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Bulldogs biggest threat may not even be their veteran quarterback but rather sophomore star running back Knowshon Moreno. Moreno has 1113 yards this season on the ground with 15 TDs and a 5.9 yard per carry average. If you want to see one of the best running backs in the nation look no further than Georgia’s Knowshon Moreno he is a playmaker that can be the difference in any ballgame.

Auburn defense has kept them in games this year when the offense has stalled and parked. The Tiger defense has held opposing teams to 16 points per game putting them 13th best in scoring defense. Offensively, tailback Ben Tate has been solid moving the ball on the ground. Tate has 615 yards this season with 3 touchdowns and a 4.4 yard per carry average. Tate possibly has been the most consistent performer for the entire Auburn offense. Kodi Burns has taken over as the starting QB for the Tigers from former starter Chris Todd. Burns gives the offense a dual threat because Burns keeps the ball to run in many situations. Burns has rushed for nearly 300 yards in the past 4 games with 4 touchdowns as well. The downfall Burns has had is when he has had to drop back to pass he has thrown 7 picks this season with only 1 TD through the air. The Tigers need to establish a bit more pass offense to consistently move the ball more.

Betting Trends…
Georgia is 1-4-1 in their last 6 games ATS, but they are 4-1-1 in their last 6 games on the road. The over total has been reached in 4 of Georgia’s last 6 games. Georgia is also 4-2 ATS in their last 6 contest with the Auburn Tigers. Auburn is 1-8 this season ATS however Auburn is 9-2 SU in their last 11 games at home.

Jay’s Pick: I like the under 48 points in this game. Both defenses play extremely well and even if Georgia puts up some points I don’t believe the Tigers have the fire power to match them. Under 48.
