Tony's Take - Betcha Didn't Know!

Exclusively to Predictem by Tony George of SportsAudioShows.com

A weekly Friday feature for our friends at Predictem, I give you some rare stats and facts that may in fact help you make better decisions and give you some pause for this weekend college and pro football action.

Week 1 of the NFL and a full slate of NCAA games often excites the novice bettor to lay the wood with public perception favorites and play a ton of games. Having some good information, a proven sports handicapping advisor, and taking the approach that less is more in the opening weeks of the football season will fatten your wallet and reduce the downside. Information is an important commodity, here is some for you.

Some fast facts and trends in College Football:

Troy @ Florida - The Trojans are always a threat! They are 5-0 against Top 10 teams since moving to Division I back in 2001`. They have also covered against the SEC 6 out of 7 times, and gave Arkansas a game last week for 3 quarters, having 19 first downs. Florida is laying 27 points.

Southern Miss @ Tennessee - You would think with 110,000 faithful in Knoxville every home game that the Vols would be dominant. last week they an egg at Cal, and looked bad doing so. Interesting they are laying another huge number at home against Jeff Bowers Southern Miss team, who is always feisty! The Vols are 7-22 ATS as home favs their last 29 home games. They are laying 10.5 points to a capable team off a horrific loss. Makes you think huh?

Air Force @ Utah - The Utes not only lost their starting RB to a broken leg last week, he will miss the season, but their starting QB Johnson is out for 3 weeks with a head injury. Kind of unsettling since they got pounded by Oregon State who in turn just got embarrassed by Cincy on Thursday Night, yet the Utes lay 7 points to Air Force.

Kansas St vs. San Jose State - The Cats BLEW a game at Auburn, but impressed with defense. San Jose St has lost their starting RB last week, and their 2nd stringer was lost for the season in camp. The managed 40 yards rushing last week in a 45-3 road loss at Arizona State, and take to the road again. K State is hungry, and more than ticked off about blowing a game on ESPN last week. K State is 3-0 ATS with Ron Prince as the head man as a home favorite. K State lays 17!

Alabama @ Vanderbilt - The Commodores are a reliable ATS team against the Tide. They have covered 10 out of 12 in this series, and keep in mind that Nick Sabin is still to trying to establish some chemistry on his Alabama team. Vandy has 17 starters back, a solid QB in Nickson, and the best kept secret at WR in the SEC in Bennett. They are 4 point pups at home. Hmmmm!

Just a few news and notes to make you take some pause, or in some cases like Kansas State for instance, not be so reluctant to lay some points against a team clearly in big trouble this weekend. CAN ANYONE READ BETWEEN THE LINES ON THAT ONE? Some serious food for thought this upcoming weekend in college football.

Week 1 of the NFL will provide plenty or surprises, like Thursday Night when a suspect Colts defense simply shut down one of the best offenses in the NFL, simply out of no where, losing 6 starters from a Super Bowl defense. Use caution this Sunday as many teams in the preseason who looked good, may in fact show a different face on Sunday and visa versa!
