Craps Betting Strategy - The Good Bets and The Bad Ones

Good Craps Bets

The very best bet when playing craps is with the come out roll of the pass line bet. The house edge on this bet is low at 1.41%. Of all the bets in Craps this is the lowest house edge. If you are a beginning Craps player or you want get the best odds with the least risk this is the bet to go with. You can actually get a better house edge of 1.36% with the don't pass bet, but you will not make many friends as the table, as you will be betting against the shooter, and considering that Craps is the most social game in the casino you, is it really worth it to get the .05% advantage by being an unpopular player at the table?

The next bet in craps is after the come out roll in the odds bet. When a point has been established by the come out roll you can then make another bet that is a multiple of the pass line bet you make. The multiple varies from casino to casino, but generally 2X is common. The good thing about the odds bet is that it gives you true odds. Basically the house has a 0 edge on this odds bet, so it is advantage of you to take it.

By combining the potential win when betting on the odds bet with the low 1.41% house edge with the come out roll, your disadvantage is lowered significantly. The more you bet on the odds bet the lower your disadvantage will be. If you can take the 2X odds, the house edge is only 0.61%, rather than 1.41%. If you can find a casino that offers this bet at 100X odds the house edge is lowered more being only 0.02%, which is the closest you will get to even money for any table game.

Bad Craps Bets

Even though the odds bet and the pass bets don't pass bets have very low house edges, there are some extremely bad bets on the Craps table, in terms of the odds they give. For instance, the house edge on a Big 6 bet, which is when a 6 comes out before a 7, is 9.1%. This house edge is really bad odds for the player. Just as bad as the Big 6 bet is the Big 8 bet, which offers the same house edge of 9.1%. Since the house edge is so high with both of these bets it is a good idea to avoid them.

Two very bad Craps bets are the Hard 4 bet and the Hard 10 bet. Both of these bets have a house edge of over 11%. You will hit it big if these are rolled but the odds for the house is high for a reason, as the Hard 4 and Hard 10 rarely come out, so you should avoid both of these bets.

The worst odds for a Craps bet are for proposition bets. This type of bet when playing craps is betting what will happen on the next roll of the dice. The proposition bets on either a 2 or 12 being the next roll have the absolute worst odds for any bet in the game of Craps. The house edge on these two proposition bets is a whopping 13.9%. Again, while the payout is big these rolls rarely come out, which is why the house edge is so high.

If you want to stay at the Craps table for a while and take advantage of lower house edges than follow these good craps bets. But if you want to try for the biggest payout than you can make these bad Craps bets, but you have to know that there is a good chance, actually a very good chance, you will be giving the casino your money.
