Superstitious Craps Beliefs
by Wilson of Predictem.com
Gamblers are well known for their extreme beliefs in superstitions. Craps is no exception. If you spend any amount of time at a craps table you will see, first hand, several acts of superstition. Read the following and decide if you are a believer or not.
Never say the number seven out loud. According to superstitious players the dice can hear you and if you shout or whisper the number seven, well, it will definitely show on the next roll!
Try to avoid getting hit by the dice. If another player is the shooter stay clear of those dice! Make your wagers early and listen to the stickman as he will clearly announce when the shooter has the dice, “the shooter has the dice.”
Always request the same dice when they leave the table. Many players are convinced that a change in the dice will cause a change in the outcome of the roll. If you get a little wild and roll one off the table just simply say “same dice please.”
Speaking of the dice leaving the table, one of the biggest craps superstitions is that when the dice leave the table a seven is coming next! It's amazing how often it happens too!
When you asked for an eleven whether to be thrown or bet it’s important that you use the proper lingo by calling out its nickname, “yo”, as this will hide your novice status. For example, if you want to bet $5 on the eleven (15 to 1), you would call out “five dollars on the yo.”
Craps rolls come in pairs. Usually after one roll of a craps number you will hear several players bet on any craps.
All women who throw the dice for the first time as a rookie are good luck! If you notice or observe that there is a women about to shoot who looks like she has never thrown the dice I would immediately make a bet as she is destined to win!
Never play at a craps table by yourself. The reason no one is playing is because it’s a cold table. The only time I ever play at a craps table alone is when it first opens for play. I recently was the first player on a Sunday morning at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas and I won over $600 in twenty minutes. By the time I colored-up to catch my plane the table was full.
Make an attempt to throw the dice with minimal movement. Seasoned players believe that the more the dice roll and bounce around the table the more likely a seven out will occur. I always find a nice rhythm with a smooth delivery while keeping the dice gentle off the back of the table.
Some players will throw the dice off of the mirror on the table for good luck. The mirror is directly across from the dealers. The casino employees will not recommend throwing the dice at the mirror because it hurts the dice and the mirror (the mirror is used for security reasons).
When a point is established many players will automatically place the number opposite to the point. The thought is that the odds are the same on hitting the opposite of the point. The points and their opposites are: four, opposite ten; point of five, opposite 9; point of six, opposite eight, and vice versa. If you do the math, all pairs of opposites add up to fourteen.
You will also get some looks when you're on the don't pass and others are on the passline.
So there you have it, a few superstitions on the craps table. There are many players who live and die by these “unwritten” rules, but for those of you who are new to the game it might not hurt to cater to the cause as superstitions have a mysterious way of working things out! Luck to ya.
