Tips for Playing in Craps Tournaments
by Wilson of Predictem.com
If you want a more competitive atmosphere at the craps table then maybe you should consider playing in a craps tournament. These tournaments are offered at by most casinos and they can cater to the veteran player as well as the novice player. Veterans can use their knowledge and experience to rule the table, and novice players can learn how to play with the piece of mind that they cannot buy back in if they lose all their chips; this way they are not tempted to chase their loses.
Craps tournaments are definitely more of a risk to the player as you must keep an eye on every other player at the table. The rules are quite structured. Usually contestants in a tournament must buy-in for a set amount of money (chips) and play for a certain amount of time or dice rolls. Players are assigned to random tables and similar to a Texas Hold’em tourney players who win at their tables advance to another table until there is only one table with approximately 10-12 players. In most cases the casinos allow the top two players from each table to move up to the next table.
There is no guaranteed way to win a craps tournament. Anything can happen when you gamble but there are some things you can do to improve your chances of playing on the last table. Remember that a successful gambler is usually the player who prepares before stepping into the casino. Here is some information that may help you prepare for the big tournament.
Before you even think about playing in a craps tournament call the casinos (shop around) for tournament fees and prize distribution. A respectable tournament will usually give back all of the entry money in cash and prizes.
Make sure you acquire a current copy of that particular tournament’s rules. This will show you all the details, number of players, buy-in requirements… 3. In my opinion it’s best to play a little on the conservative side from the beginning and then assess your position towards the end of the round. If you find that you are behind in chips then it’s time to make more aggressive wagers.
If the chip leader is betting on the pass line with come bets you might want to bet the opposite. By betting opposite of the leader you win if he or she loses thus allowing you to gain more chips.
Most players bet a lot on the last couple of rolls in an effort to quickly gain chips but this is very risky and often backfires resulting in a huge loss. Usually tournament rules limit the amount you can bet on proposition bets.
Every tournament that I have played in requires the players to place their chips in the grooved racks directly in front of them. Also, the players must stack their chips by color/denomination. Players can determine whether or not they need to adjust their wagers depending on the amount of chips each player has accrued.
Don’t be afraid to keep at least one chip in your rack as it may be the one chip that wins. I’ve heard of some players wagering it all in an effort to load up chips for the next table but then they lose while the player with one red chip takes second place and moves up.
Remember that your main objective is to have more chips at the end of a round than the other players at the table. You may not have what you started with but you may still have more than others.
Watch out for the tricky players who will wager the maximum odds bet and then quickly pull it down in an attempt to get other players to chase. Try not to fall for the “bait” dished out by your opponents.
Hey, remember to have fun, after all isn’t that why you’re playing? But it doesn’t hurt you to come prepared. The more you know increases your chances for dough! Let’s face it, most people who enter any kind of gambling tournament are there to have fun and take huge risks, but those of us who can balance out the risk by making timely decisions can often go the distance.
Perhaps the most important aspect to remember during a craps tournament is to make sure you know how many chips your opponents have because usually the top two players advance. So, what I’m trying say is this: when you’re playing in a craps tournament it’s perfectly legal to check out your opponents rack! Luck to ya.
