I think this is an attack with a subtle meaning of "who is he", which relies on people then filling the air with "isn't he a guy who is a muslim, homosexual, far left liberal who wants to turn the country into far right saudi arabia". Basically, playing on fear.
There is a long record of his time in the IL Senate, he has to constantly defend the whole BS "voting present" thing, which is something common in IL state legislature (living here myself) - a tactic used by virtually all up and coming politicians at that level in this state. He has to defend every association he has ever had with someone who he knew, well, remotely, or otherwise.
Which is fine. Because of the whole Wright/Ayers thing, he is probably 10 points lower in the polls than he would otherwise be.
I still think he will win, despite that. A lot of people are tired of voting from a position of fear - fear that Obama will make MC Hammer the Secretary of Defense, Al Sharpton the Secretary of Education, and Ice-T the Attorney General, while making Al Hussein Obama Putin the Secretary of State. Then make gay marriage mandatory, ban cigarettes and beer - mandating pot and merlot instead, and raising taxes to 90% on everyone but gay, handicapped, hairy armpitted feminists - who will be given all the excess revenue to spend on an internal military campaign aimed at cutting our dicks off lorena bobbit style.
I mean, we can all speculate, but if Obama is President, the changes will be minor. In fact, the biggest risk he has is that he wins, he tries to change things, and the special interests thwart him. Again. Which now that McCain is doing the Rove thing and taking the opponent's strenght and then trying to capitalize on it - is likely to backfire, if not more, because at best McCain wins and gets a Democratic congress - possibly with enough votes to override a McCain veto. McCain could turn out to be worse for Republicans than Obama, depending on how the congressional elections go.
