Sleep number or any other memory foam mattress is fine! The drawbacks to these matts are 1) they are expensive as hell 2) and noone really knows how long they last!
The memory foams I have sold have gotten nothing but praise, but you be the judge! It's a tough transition switching from regular coil mattresses to memory foam IMHO!
I personally think coil mattresses will be here forever and provide the best comfort for your back! Here are some top of the line companies to look for when looking for coil mattresses...
Sealy Posturepedic ..... my personal favorite! A great matt with a reasonable price!
Simmons Beauty Rest ..... another favorite of mine with a great price! Their top of the line can get pricey but it's worth it for the comfort you get!
Those are the only two I would really trust when buying myself a mattress! I sold them retail for 15 years so I do have some knowledge and experience!
Dont pay anything over $1100 - $1200 for a queen and don't pay anything over $1500 - $1600 for a king! The memory foam will be priced sky high and I personally feel they are not worth it!
Hope this helps...
