NHL 2010.03.03 final 2 picks:
Philadelphia Flyers @ Florida Panthers
Today we have a scenario with both teams playing back-to-back. The Flyers are coming from a 7-2 win at Tampa, starting this part of the season well and this mini road trip. In other hand, the Panthers went to Atlanta yesterday to lost 4-2 in a game where they had many opportunities but they didn't take advantage of them. Lucky for them, Atlanta also missed many easy goals, avoiding a big loss.
Florida are the one of the NHL teams that probably will struggle in this part of the season, and it's almost certain they will miss the playoffs. Their defence has to be their strongest point, as the offence usually struggles. Yesterday, they were able to score only once in the eight powerplays (PPs) they had. They were short-handed five times (Penalty Kills - PK) and conceding only one goal from them. The offence is a major issue, as they have been unable to score more than two goals in their last 14 games. With their offence struggling so badly, they have to win a battle of the strongest defence, but that rarely works aganst strong offensive teams.
Philadelphia are trying to recover the momentum they lost during December. This team has great potential with quality at both ends of the ice. Their goal is the NHL playoffs, and they still able to get there, however, they can't afford many losses from here. Their offence is one of the best in the league, with a list of talented players, all of whom can score. They are coming from a 7-2 win in Tampa, where they scored 3 PP goals and allowed none in 7 PK. In their "dark moments" in December, the Flyers lost 4-1 at home against the Panthers. Now, it's time to get them back.
Pick: Philadelphia Flyers PL -1.5 +210 (3.10) Bookmaker
Colorado Avalanche @ Anaheim Ducks
After the Olympics break, Colorado re-opened the NHL season with a defeat at home against the Red Wings. That loss wasn't totally deserved, as they lost 3-2, suffering 2 PP goals, and failed to score in the late PP they had to tie the game. So, they didn't enter as they expected.
Anaheim will make their "re-debut" today, at home. They still have some aspirations for this season, and have renewed strengths. With their hero coming back after being a big part of the gold medal for Canada, this team expect to achieve something more, and at this point, the supporters and the team really believes that it's possible as long as they make a remarkable rest of season. Their calendar in the upcoming matches is not difficult, and they will give all they can to keep the hopes alive. At home, this team is really powerful in their offense, scoring more than 3.30 goals per game, allowing 2.80.
Colorado after the loss, will try to achieve a win today, but their good road record (15-11) is a little bit liar. They started very well the season, with several wins on road. But the last time they get a road win, was earlier in January. Since their powerful start, they weren't able to repeat it so frequently.
Before Christmas, the Ducks went to Colorado win 4-2. They made 43 shots, even playing on road, while the Avs only made 17. Both teams won exactly 32 face offs. Now, they will play in Anaheim, and if Ducks were able to made a easy game in Colorado, we can expect a easier game today. Specially because this Ducks usually deal very well with these Avs.
