Default Strikeforce: Diaz vs Cyborg

Saturday, January 29th, 2011
HP Pavilion
San Jose, California

Strikeforce Welterweight Championship
Nick Diaz (23-7) -350 vs Evangelista Santos (18-13) +250

Strikeforce Middleweight Championship
Ronaldo Souza (13-2) -220 vs Robbie Lawler (18-6) +175

Roger Gracie (3-0) -170 vs Trevor Prangley (23-6-1) +140
Herschel Walker (1-0) -350 vs Scott Carson (4-1) +250
Eric Lawson (9-3) -240 vs Ron Keslar (5-3) +190
Nathan Coy (8-3) -260 vs Nate Moore (6-2) +200
Isaiah Hill (4-7-1) +325 vs. Bobby Stack (8-1) -450
Lucas Gamaza (4-1) +190 vs. James Terry (8-2) -240
Germaine de Randamie (1-1) vs. Stephanie Webber (1-1)
Jenna Castillo (0-0) vs. Charlene Gellner (0-0)
Anthony Dariano vs. Alan Perez
Niko Jackson vs. Ricky Jackson (0-0)
Sam Bracamonte vs. Armin Safiari

Looks like a few new fighters on the Strikeforce card, but two title fights should bring plenty of action. Nick Diaz, twin brothers with UFC's Nate Diaz - is touted as the ultimate douchebag. Santos doesn't hold much of a challenge in this fight, so we'll see how the lines move.

One that looks good is Ruthless Robbie Lawler at these odds, +200 (BetUS; +205 JustBet). Decent enough underdog to take a shot - as 15 of his 18 wins have come by TKO. Jacare comes at an entirely different angle, as ten of his 13 wins have came by submission (other three by decision). Jacare sports a three-fight win streak; Ruthless alternating wins and losses for the last five fights.

I'll be interested in seeing Walker fight - as I missed his first one - and the odds that come with it. This guy is 47+ years old, and built like a brick-**** house. He's even talked, mentioned an NFL comeback ()!! How awesome is that?? Walker knocked out Greg Nagy in Miami, in the third round, almost one year ago.

Other lines out later.

Well, both title fights have the line moving in favor of the underdogs. Should have pulled the trigger on the Lawler line as it's down to +175 now... however, looking at the weigh-ins, Jacare is stacked and though Lawler is no slouch, not as ripped up as Souza. Walker about where I thought, maybe a bit higher because of name recognition.

Two bets on my card today:

Robbie Lawler +175 for 1 unit

Roger Gracie -170
to win 1 unit

I hope the Diaz fight doesn't overlap with HBO tonight, but it more than likely will.
Lawler is always exciting to watch.

I finally got to watch the fight last night... I have to agrew with you Verified! Santos was no match. I liked his idea of chopping down the tree, and even Diaz said himself he should have blocked them more... but Santos was gassed. Diaz meanwhile was able to put on a complete boxing clinic. Though he only (!) landed 58% of his shots, it seemed more like 90%. Santos eventually takes him to the ground and without gas, loses to an arm-bar. Bad-ass fight.

The Herschel Walker fight was as to be expected. Didn't know much about Carson, and still don't. Walker's traps are bigger than when Overeem was roiding - but the guy is at 220 right now. He hasn't been tested by a striker, and I'd have a hard time beliving that he could cut down to 205. He's a small heavyweight, but in that division, he may do well... we'll see this year.

Lawler rocked Souza in the first round with a couple of punches, and Lawler might even have had a 10-8 round... eventually get's rear-naked second round.

Gracie rear-naked Prangley, improving his record to 4-0.
