Default Possible BCS Bowl Match Ups

This is going on the (shaky) assumption that BOTH West Virginia and Missouri win.

I assume most people know the 5 tie-ins for the conferences by now. Add to them Hawaii getting in if they beat Washington and finish in the Top 12 (which is highly likely if they win even though I guess Tennessee and/or Arizona State could jump them) and Georgia is guaranteed a spot because they will finish 4th and three conference champs are ahead of them so they are the highest at-large guaranteeing them a BCS birth.

Again this is all prospective so I'm using the favored teams that 8 of the 10 spots, in alphabetical order, are going to Georgia, Hawaii, LSU, Missouri, Ohio State, USC, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia . That leaves 3 at-large places to fill in these match-ups and leaves these bowl games kinda "wanting" if you ask me.

Rose Bowl: Ohio State (Big 10) vs USC (Pac 10)
Sugar Bowl: LSU (Southeastern) vs Kansas (At Large)
Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech (Atlantic Coast) vs Georgia (Auto Qualifier, Ranked in Top 4)
Fiesta Bowl: Arizona State (At Large) vs Hawaii (Auto Qualifier, Ranked in Top 12)
NCG: Missouri (BCS #1) vs West Virginia (BCS #2)

Florida would be the highest ranked team left out at BCS #10. They go play New Years Day vs the Big 10 (Illinois or Michigan).

Maybe someone can find out who has the 1st pick this year for at larges. I am 99% sure now that I think about it that the bowl which loses conference champ to the NCG game picks FIRST. Obviously, in a normal world, Georgia would be the first pick for anyone, but the Fiesta would have lost Missouri so they pick first and they'd want a Western/Central team, better yet their home town team, to go up against Hawaii (making ASU the pick) and the Sugar can't pick Georgia to play LSU anyway so that leaves Georgia to the Orange Bowl (which they would welcome with open arms obviously - especially versus Virginia Tech). Sugar would take a Big 12 team, and Hawaii would go to the Fiesta with the last selection.

What do you guys think about this group of games?

IF MISSOURI LOSES: It becomes a cluster ****. Does Missouri still get in over Kansas? Do they both go and 3 teams from the Big 12 go plus Hawaii???? This scenario the Fiesta is assumedly locked in to Hawaii so the first pick is vital because obviously they are taking Georgia in a landslide. First pick would be the Rose since they'd lose OSU to the NCG. They can't take a Pac 10 team since USC is already locked there and Oklahoma would be in the NCG game here so I don't know how they would pass up USC vs Georgia. Much like LSU in the first scenario, if Georgia for some reason didn't travel, USC would seel the place out anyway since it's a home game basically.

Rose Bowl: USC (Pac 10) vs Georgia (Auto Qualifier, BCS Top 4)
Sugar Bowl: LSU (Southeastern) vs Hawaii (Auto Qualifier, Top 12)
Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech (Atlantic Coast) vs Kansas (At Large)
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma (Big 12) vs Arizona State (At Large)
NCG: Ohio State (BCS #2) vs West Virginia (BCS #1)

Cuse, I may be wrong but I've heard that Illinois has an alright shot to get invited as well.

And I would say Georgia would go to the Fiesta over Kansas. It's all about getting people to the game, and I doubt many Kansas fans travel too well(if there are any real kansas football fans) and I believe UGA fans do alright in terms of showing up to bowls. TV ratings for any Georgia bowl game would be higher than a Kansas one as well. I think Hawaii v. Kansas would be a ratings nightmare for the Fiesta.

Illinois can't go right now because they are only ranked 15th. You need to be in the Top 14 and have 9 regular season wins to go to the BCS. They would need Hawaii to lose or more likely Tennessee. I don't know how the BCS could justify taking the worst possible ranked team they could take over Kansas or Arizona State though? Even though I understand that after the NCG the bowls are free to choose anyone in the Top 14 with 9 wins.

Arizona State will go because they will obviously get fans there. I'm gonna fix the above. Also, the Big 12 has a tie-in with the Fiesta so they aren't going to take an at large Georgia over at large Kansas if Kansas promises to sell the seats.

If I'm not mistaken the tie-ins are thrown out the window if a team from the tied-in conference goes to the MNC game. And I would imagine that Georgia is a more attractive team to any bowl than Kansas, even though I love Kansas. TV ratings are taken in to account and I can't imagine Kansas vs. Hawaii would light up all the TV's in America. Granted Hawaii/UGA wouldn't either, but it would get more people watching than the other option(if that's the 2 I have to pick from).

There was some sorta clause made last week about expanding the top 14 to the top 18. I really didn't listen too it or know if something has to happen for them to switch it.

I was about to say the same thing but wasn't sure I had heard it right. But I knew there was a reason I was including Illinois.

Only 2 teams from 1 conference can go to a BCS game. I do know that, which is why they have to expand it to 18 teams because some conferences like the Big10 wouldn't have another team in the top 14 and conferences like the SEC and Big12 might have 3 or so. And i have actually heard HAW rumored to the Sugar Bowl for some reason. Heard that on Fox

And if there is another non Pac10/Big10 RoseBowl you might as well stick a name sponsor on it and just call it the CitiCard bowl like they have done with all the other ones, because the tradition of the Rose Bowl is shot.

Anyone remember the days about 20 years ago when ND, FSU, Miami, Penn State were all independents......The orange Bowl was played on New Years Day night and always had either Nebraska or Oklahoma....The Rose Bowl was always right before that and had some Big10 school getting waxed by a Pac10 school (Bo lost like 7 straight Rose Bowls)........The BlueBonnet Bowl was on New Years Eve night.......actually the Sugar Bowl used to be on New Year's eve at one point too.....then it got moved opposite the Orange Bowl..........and you always had the Cotton Bowl to kick off the AM on New Years'.....

now we have...... ................money rarely has a positive impact on anything ........(except Toy Drives and the like........)

If Missouri loses they CANT goto a BCS game......

Oklahoma would get the automatic bid as the Big 12 Champion
Kansas would also be an automatic because they would be ranked BCS Top 4
Big 12 Confrence is limited to only two teams....

Missouri would be in the cotton bowl.

Rumor down here is that UGA will probably be in the Orange Bowl playing ACC Champ. and LSU vs Hawaii in Sugar Bowl. That is assuming LSU beats Tennessee.

Thanks for the info guys. I kinda thought only 2 teams per conference could go, but I wasn't sure.

It also makes a ****ty game LSU vs Hawaii, but it's obvious why the would do it. Sugar Bowl will sell out regardless of who LSU plays because LSU is there.

I'll edit the above stuff or re-write it down here later on and maybe we can get some feelings on the games. I thought it would be cool if Illinois got matched up with Florida and Zook beat them, haha...

Thanks for the info, good stuff!!!

(If Missouri loses, why would Illinois get in over any of these)... HAW, LSU, UGA, OSU, OKLA, KANS, WVA, USC, ARZ ST, VT/BC winner ???

I thought that if Mizzou lost then OSU would move into the title game and Illinois into the Rose Bowl. I could definitely be wrong though.

OSU would move to the title game and the rose bowl would then get the first or second(whoever else loses their rep gets one too) at-large choice.

Yeah, i heard the same thing. LSU-Hawaii in the Sugar, ASU-Kansas in the Fiesta, OSU or Illinois vs. USC in the Rose, Ga.-VT/BC in the Orange.

I think Mizzou and West Virginia would be an absolute shootout. Mizzouri's weakness is the run, and West Virginia's weakness is the pass. The result is an over/under set at about 80. And I'll take the over.

I also like the LSU-Hawaii matchup for the simple reason it's Hawaii's chance to prove themselves. Imagine what would happen if they won at LSU. Boise's win over Oklahoma last year was big, but Hawaii's win would be bigger, and make the BCS an even bigger fraud than it already is.
