Default mets

the mets have become an absolute disgrace

after being the laughing stock of the regular season with the embarrassing collapse, the mets are now the laughing stock of the offseason after trading milledge for nothing

omar has lost his mind and as a big mets fan i feel like i got ****ted on.....again

You're sad cause Milledge is gone? Why? I'm surprised they got what they did for him. Church is a very good hitter against right handed pitching and has 20hr possibility and Schneider is on the the best 3-4 defensive catchers in all of baseball. His glove with Casto's bat is a good enough platoon for me to live with. I'm not saying this is you B, but Met fans who think the Mets are trading for Santana just don't get it. The Mets have one guy that other teams covet, and he's only an 18 year old outfielder, Fernando Martinez. NO ONE wanted Milledge. They should have traded him last eyar when Billy Beane wanted him, but even Beane soured on him. The Mets said they tried to trade him everywhere and no one wanted him. Minnesota wanted no part of him, neither does Oakland, or Florida. Most teams don't want Pelfrey or Humber either so Omar really has Martinez and Carlos Gomez as chips, and that's about it (and the Mulvey kid who's real young too).

I was hoping they could put together a package to get Danny Haren, but it seems now the Red Sox are zeroing in on him and they have so many talented kids that I would be surprised if they didn't end up trading for him. Lester and a couple young kids has been talked about for Haren. Maybe the Mets can get Blanton from Oakland, but they reality is that they have no overly enticing commodities to deal, especially not major league ready ones (unless they choose to move Reyes in a Santana deal).

At least Omar brought in two non-Hispanic players for a change. That **** is getting old real fast.

I can't stand Milledge and am glad he's gone. Even if he's good at some point, he will get into trouble somehow and ruin his career, IMHO.

i agree, no way we get santana, i did find out exactly what you said about milledge's lack of value, i'm so surprised by it tho, i thought he was getting his act together and he did show improvements, he was hitting around .290 for alot of the season. and did you ever hear him speak in interviews? extremely well spoken and sounded like a humble star in the making, doesnt mean anything but i was beginning to believe he was getting his act together and to see us get an underwhelming package at first glance had me pissed.

ERIC BEDARD, i think we trade gomez, pelfrey and something else for him, that dude is awesome and omar has to have something up his sleeve. martinez is the future i take it

Wow...I don't know Cuse.....
This reeks much more of the Brian Bannister trade from last year if you ask me.

Trading a young talent like Milledge for two reserve parts just does not make any sense to me.

I also think Milledge wore out his welcome with his ******* dancing with Reyes that got the Marlins all fired up and brought them back from the dead. I can list enumerable examples of why Milledge hasn't grown up and might never - including him being an awful influence on Reyes IMHO.

Time will tell on this one though B, and JB you are 100% correct that the Bannister deal looks like an atrocity too. If they had Bannister, they wouldn't have to go out and waste money on either Carlos Silva or Livan Hernandez (which they will get one of at the winter meetings cause they need an innings eater, hopefully Silva). I'm still a non-believer in Bannister being anywhere as good as he was this past season, but maybe I'm just bitter they let a homegrown player, with good baseball genes, go for another member of Omar's Hispanic Army.

Milledge I will not miss though.

I don't always agree with Omar, but I have a similar thought process to building a team as he does. Strength up the middle defensively, speed, and pitching. The only problem Omar neglects is that this pitching staff is not even close to being good, nevermind great. He's done nothing to upgrade the bullpen, and the starters are essentially 5 3rd starters or worse.

I also think he was right in his point that most people criticizing this trade know nothing about Church. The guy had 43 doubles last year in a HUGE ballpark and had 70 rbi's on a team that never had anyone on base. Put him the 6 hole on the Mets and he hits 43 doubles, he's going to drive in 85 runs.

We shall see. Omar again made it clear that Reyes isn't going anywhere for anyone. Hopefully ,eh can get Bedard or Haren somehow, or at least Blanton. Martinez, Blanton, Maine, Perez, and El Duque is not terrible. There's no guaranteed 18 game winner, but there's also a chance to win every time out.

The Mets got an absolute steal in this trade IMO. The catcher is nothing to write home about but Church is a very underrated player and Omar knew exactly what he was doing. Trading an underperforming guy that still has that "top prospect" luster that some GMs will love. I really with the Pirates would have at least submitted a lowball offer for Milledge because he's the exact type of player they should be looking for, high reward type players that they can give time to develop while they try others. Jason Bay ain't gonna be a Pirate much longer and they need to find a replacement.

Nitts- I pretty much agree with you. Schneider is what he is. He will play great D and call a great game, which is valuable in itself because one of the knocks on LoDuca in the Mets organization is that he called an awful Game 7 against the Cardinals. I don't think Omar has ever gotten past that. NO ONE plays harder than Paulie did, and I'll miss him, but it was time to move on, IMHO.

As for your point about Church, it's dead on. This guy had 70 extra base hits (43 doubles) in that cavernness park. Shea is no joke either, but some of those doubles will turn into home runs, and playing in a much better offensive line-up with afford him many more RBI opportunities too. There's some talk that Omar got him to use him as a chip in a trade to get Haren or Blanton too, so either way, I'm fine with this trade. If they use him as a piece to get Haren (whereas Milledge wasn't a piece because Beane doesn't want him), then great! If they plug him in RF and he hits .275 with 18 HR's, 80 RBI's, and plays much better defense than Shawn Green ever could... that's fine with me too.

Ryan Church had an OPS of .813 from the left side in his first full MLB season and was a very good OBP guy in the minors. He is the type of player I'd love the Pirates to get. I'm guilty of being a "stat head" when it comes to baseball and loving the Sabermetric stats, but they are more spot on than stats that have absolutely no meaning like BA and RBIs IMO. Ryan Church will never hurt your team, he may not win a title by himself, but put him ahead of David Wright and he will be deadly.

Well Nitts, he's not hitting ahead of David Wright because Reyes and Castillo are 1 and 2. I totally agree though and honest to god the more i think about it, the more I think Billy Beane might have told Omar to go get Chruch for Milldege and then include Church in a Haren (hopefully) or Blanton deal. Pelfrey, Church and Heilman for Haren???
