Default JML Thursday MLB >>>

MLB YTD: 37-40, -10.14 Units

Starting with a couple afternooners...

Astros +162 (Backe) vs Phillies
The hugely over-rated Bret Myers laying -170? Fade. Phils are 1-7 in his last 8 starts, and the guy hasn't shown he can be a dominant starter in a few years. I actually prefer the rejuvenated Backe in this one, and the Phils offence seems to miss Rollins as well. This line is off by 30 cents, IMO.

Reds +129 (Volquez) vs Cubs (Lilly)
Fading Lilly. This guy was never more than a .500 pitcher and a #4 type lefty starter, and his inconsistancy is legendary around these parts. He had a decent year last year in his first go-around in the NL, but the party's over this year, IMO. The guy has no velocity, and his curveball can be so hit or miss. Lilly was horrible in the pre-season, has been horrible in 3 starts to start the year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the bullpen or the DL before long. He's lasting about 4 innings per start this year, and the Reds must be looking at this as a perfect spot to end their streak. Volquez is a good young arm, and has come out of the gate strong. Cubs losing Soriano helps too...

Night games...

Red Sox -126 (Beckett) vs Yanks
I like Beckett to get Boston the split in this 2-gamer in a starter rematch of the Sox win from Saturday. He looked strong, and seems to have his stuff back. Boston bats are hot, lighting up the Yanks ace last night, and should do the same against old man Moose, who has been rocked by the Sox the past few years.

White Sox -101 (Floyd) vs Orioles
Seems like a gift getting a dog line against the Orioles. Baltimore is 2-6 over it's last 8 after a lucky start, and is free-falling to it's rightful place in the East basement. The O's bats have gone silent, making guys like Contreras look like allstars. Chisox have been playing good ball, and are pitching insanely good to start the year. Floyd has been superb, and I see no reason why he shouldn't shut down the weak O's lineup too.

Blue Jays -182 (Halladay) vs Rangers
Not sure how the Jays don't bounce back after last night's 14th inning loss to the horrible Rangers.....facing Padilla tonight, who the Jays rocked just last Friday. Halladay is unbeaten in 12 at home, and shut down this Rangers lineup in Arlington on Saturday for a CG 6-hitter.

One more...

Mariners +106 (Silva) vs A's
Couldn't pass it up....M's as a dog again. I cashed the ridiculous line of Felix dogged last night (a real head-scratcher), and I like the M's dogged again today. I think we might get some value in the next little while fading the A's after their hot start. A's bats are one of the worst groups in MLB (26th actually), and they had some success early because of some timely hitting and small ball. But it's a tough thing to ALWAYS rely on the timely hit, and it usually averages out in the end. A's have now lost 3 of 4 while only scoring 6 runs. They have no power (29th in homers & SLG), and their early season success was really a result of some good performances by some young arms, and smoke and mirrors on offence. Lenny Dinardo and that A's offence should never be favoured to anyone...especially a superior Seattle team who've started rolling.

Mariner's bats have really gotten hot the past week, and hit lefties well so far this year (.306). I expect them to put up some crooked numbers on our boy Lenny. Silva has pitched pretty well so far this year, going deep into games (a good thing with the M's bullpen), and has good career numbers against Oakland.

Whats up JML?

With you on your middle 3.

Let's hope the Jays get it going soon... 1 run down, but I got the RL, so need some offense now.

BoSox, Jays, and ChiSox..... Let's cash em!!

Yeah....Jays down a couple but I expect the Jays bats to get to Padilla soon. Halladay looks good, but has given up a couple bloop singles and a couple stolen base/hit & run advances for a couple small-ball runs. One ball's been hit hard off him so far tonight, that's it. His usual game of ground ball after ground ball....lol...he must lead the majors in ground ball to fly ball ratio...it's really uncanny...

1st round pick from 2004, considered the best arm in the minors, and a "can't miss" prospect...has been great in AAA so far...a sick lefty who throws mid-90s...
