Default Phillies announcer dies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WASHINGTON -- Philadelphia Phillies president David Montgomery says team broadcaster Harry Kalas has been taken to a hospital after passing out in the broadcast booth before Monday's game at the Washington Nationals.

Montgomery says he thinks "it's serious."

Kalas was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m.

The Phillies have closed the visitors' clubhouse at Nationals Park.

Today, a legend was lost.

I was watching the Red Sox/A's game tonight when I caught wind of the situation.

Harry Kalas was a legend. With his voice baratone and stoic, a passionate sports fan could not help but but fall in love with the voice that would host many episodes of inside the nfl and phillies games.

Living on the west coast I didn't get to hear as much of Kalas as I'd have liked to, but everytime I did it brought warmth to what was usually a cold wintery day and it pumped the juices we all know as "nfl football" through my veins.

I spent many a sunday as a youngin chaueffering and delivering (at work) listening to him call games on the radio.

I am not embarassed to admit that when I heard the news tears ran down my face.

All I could think was "how can that be?" that guy wasn't that old. I had no idea he was in his 70's and ****, he called yesterday's game.

I guess that is a reminder to cherish and embrace what we have an feel passionate about while we're still lucky enough to have it.

Thanks for the memories Harry, you will be missed by many.
