Default Some of these transactions...

...just blow my mind.

What exactly is Gagne going to do in Boston for example? Set up for Papelbum? Seems just about every time a closer moves to a set up or SP role, they suck. Didn't think Okajima was doing too bad in that role either. I could see this move backfiring. Plus, they gave up Gabbard who was pitching great, only to rely on 82 year old and always injured Schilling?

And if you're the Braves, why trade Saltamacchia, who seems to be an up and coming offensive star, for Tiexiera? Both are switch hitters, and I know Tex has the experience, but really. I don't get this trading away young guys for old(er) ones. Not a "Bravelike" move IMO. Not that I think they're losing anything right away, but doesn't seem like a sound move for the future, so unless they plan on winning it all this year, I don't really see the point. First basemen who can hit are a dime a dozen, catchers on the other hand....not so much so....and that's my point.

There were a few more I saw, but I'm out of time for now. Poker night, lol.

It would be cool if anyone wanted to voice their opinions and start a discussion about any of the deadline trades in this thread though....

I liked the Braves going out and picking up Texiera. They already have an allstar caliber catcher in Brian Mcann and Texiera should give their offense a nice jolt and give the Jones' some protection in the lineup. They may have given up a nice young talent, but this trade should push them into the playoffs IMHO.

I agree, I like the signing. If I was a Braves fan I would like the fact my GM is going for a run at the Mets, who seem a tad vulnerable, and not quite the unstoppable powerhouse everyone thought they would be....and now IMO, they have a batting order to match them, and a better pitching staff. And great point...Mcann is a young star behind the plate...there to stay, so they could afford to make the move. And hey...they haven't made the playoffs in a whole year....they had to do something!!! lol. I think Tex tears it up in ATL, and Andrew picks it up a bit with another bat for protection. Good move IMO....as well as the reliever pickup.

Thing about Gagne is...any team could have got him for a song in the offseason...I was dying fopr the Jays to bring him home to Canada as a setup guy for Ryan. Texas did nicely to sign him, then ship him off for prosepects. As for Boston picking him up...yes kinda strange, with the good bullpen they already have...and giving up a good young arm in Gabbard....but hey, they might look like geniuses come playoff time, when bullpens are very important. We'll see...

A lot of people were critical of the Braves' move when they gave up Estrada too. But McCann is going to be behind the plate for a long long time...and JS continues to prove he's one of the best GM's in the game. I think he knows what he's doing. I like the move, myself.
