I dont want to hi-jack daddy diego's thread, but you can buy stock anywhere. It's extremely easy online. go to etrade.com, or sharebuilder.com, or scottrade.com. All are good. It would be best to start out small or do some research on basic investing rules and strategies. Also, have some goals before you dive in.

with those sites, theres no broker fees right?

I wanna get my feet wet! How much would ya think is good to start out with to test the waters, and start a portfolio.

I was thinking of 5k for me personally.

thanks for any input guys :beerbang:

I'm also interesting in how stock works. I want to start learning it since NFL and NBA season is gone for now. Hope there's more out there Daddy Diego. I want to tail you on some if you have anymore. :beerbang:

there are fees. some sites its $15/ a trade or $4/ trade or $7/ a trade. it varies. historically the summer isn't usually very profitable for whatever reason in the stock market. a good amount to start with depending on your age is anywhere from 2-5 K. to teach you how it works would take a while, but for starters i would watch mad money with jim cramer at 6 pm est or 11 pm est on CNBC. The guy knows his **** and he will teach you a lot of things in a short amount of time. or i would just buy a book about stocks.

Any recommendation on books for starters? I might hit up the Barnes and Nobles here this weekend.

sorry to daddy diego for completely changing the intention of this thread.

                              ATB,

I've only read textbooks on stocks and the market so i do not have a reccomendation for you. I'm still in school getting my degree in Finance so no books for me. I've learned from trial and error, in the classroom, and from a friend. That guy I mentioned before Jim Cramer has several books out which I would believe to be very helpful. Any book about investing by Warren Buffet would also be a good start.
