Since the NFL playoffs expanded to 12 teams in 1990 with the #1 and #2 seeds in each conference owning a first round bye there have been 23 times where a #1 or #2 seed has LOST their final regular season game (more often than not resting starters and tanking) and then had their bye.
But only 3 of those 23 #1 or #2 seeds that lost their final regular season game went on to win the Super Bowl! 3 out of 23 in 19 years. Since 2002 there have been 12 #1 or #2 seeds that have lost their final regular season game. They are 0 for 12 in Super Bowl wins. Those 12 teams combined to go 7-14 ATS. Since there has been 39 Super Bowls played and in those games only 4 times has the winner not finished the regular season with a total defense ranked in the Top 11. (yards allowed per game) Year SB winner PPG rank (Actual PPG allowed) 2008 1 (13.9) 2007 17 (21.9) 2006 23 (22.5) 2005 3 (16.1) 2004 2 (16.3) 2003 1 (14.9) 2002 1 (12.3) 2001 6 (17.0) 2000 1 (10.3) 1999 4 (15.1) 1998 8 (19.3) 1997 6 (17.9) 1996 1 (13.1) 1995 3 (18.2) 1994 6 (18.5) 1993 2 (14.3) 1992 5 (15.2) 1991 2 (14.0) 1990 1 (13.2) 1989 3 (15.8) 1988 8 (18.4) 1987 6 (19.0) 1986 2 (14.8) 1985 1 (12.4) 1984 1 (14.2) |

Billy, I've lost all mine too. But I do remember, and don't have the notes to back this, that on the wildcard weekend , Sat one dog and one fav won and one wildcard won and one div winner won. Same for Sunday. I'm gonna try this today. Keep an eye on the first game. I will pull the trigger on the second game

I do know of the "line off" system. In the line off system NO team with a Negative # has EVER won the Super Bowl....
This year only one team in playoffs with a negative line off #...That's Arizona

Billy, it happened again. On wild card weekend, one div and one wildcard both Sat and Sun. I got alittle money back off my O'fer yesterday. I guess I was scared when I bought that half pt, scared I say

I picked the wrong wildcard to cover and paid dearly. Jets winning outright was a surprise to me. Thought Balt was the pick at 6 1/2. Didn't figure in the Norv Turner factor. My bad. NO has alot of momentum going into the title game. Maybe too much, just like Ariz. No bets for me so far, but NO did score the most pts this week and scored at will. Will be watching the line moves very closely as I always do. GL Billy
