Default NFL Suspends Tank Johnson for 8 Games

NFL Suspends Tank Johnson for 8 Games
By DAVE GOLDBERG, AP Football Writer

NEW YORK - Tank Johnson of the Chicago Bears was suspended by the NFL for the first eight games of the 2007 regular season for violating the league's new personal conduct policy.

The defensive tackle recently served a two-month jail stint on a probation violation on gun-related charges.

He's the third player suspended by commissioner Roger Goodell in little more than a month for off-field behavior. In April, Goodell suspended Tennessee Titans defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones for the entire 2007 season and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry for eight games. Jones is appealing his suspension.

Goodell said Johnson's suspension could be reduced to six games if he has no further involvement with law enforcement and undergoes counseling.

After meeting with Goodell last month upon his release, Johnson said he was ready to accept whatever punishment Goodell handed down and that he wants to become the NFL's "Man of the Year," the player honored for being its best citizen.

I think this shows that Goodell is going to be quite fair .. As for Pacman that dude should be banned for "atleast" a year IMO ..

I love what Goodell is doing. Stop letting these guys run rampant over society and be rewarded for it cause they can play football. 8 games, with a possible reduction to 6, is more than fair IMO.

I also think Pac Man's year is fair, and even though I am a Titans fan, I hope he eventually gets convicted with his boys since they paralyzed a guy.

Chris Henry is basically the biggest loser of all time and will probably never play again because he can't stop smoking weed, driving drunk, and endangering all of society around him.

I agree Cuse, these guys are buttered as it is...i know it all comes down to money but really its still a slap on the risk for everyone, johnson, jones, henry, IMO, that they dont have a lifetime ban.

seriously I love my sports as much as the next guy, I love watching Michael Vick play, (i just mention him but of course its all speculation until we have proof or verdict), but I mean if me or any of you guys pulled this shyt while employed at our job, how fast do you think we'd get fired, or how easy do you think we'd be able to apply for another job?

its really unfair, but with the amount of money being made, and such I cant blame the NFL, but it is admirable they are trying to do something other than let the players run amuck.

now for the TD celebration rules, that really needs to be rescinded, I dont see the harm in that, unsportsmanship maybe, but not so much IMO, if the other team is offended, boohoo! dont let them score! or make them pay for it the next time a WR goes over the middle in the next series...simple as that..

cant wait for football guys, have a good summer!

I agree , nothing wrong with Chad Johnson pulling off TIGER HOOD or Steve Smith acting like he's a sword fighting pirate when playing TB ..
