Default World hockey championships....

Anyone else betting the outrights for this tourny???

I've been looking over rosters and while a couple teams could provide upsets and have outside shots at medals, I think this is a 3 dog race.

Canada is bringing a C list squad but should be solid on the back end and have a couple good goalies. Up front they are a little thin but I don't think Stevie Y's done calling people yet. They lost a tune up to the fins today but I don't put much stock into that, but the fins are a team I think could provide an upset and take home a medal. The fins will trap and play a solid team game but they don't have the d to win this tourny imo. Got off topic a bit but Canada should end up being a more complete team than others in the tourny but will be lacking the top end talent some of the other contenders are bringing.

Russia, my question with them is will they have the goaltending but will it matter when you have Alexander Ovechkin , Alexander Frolov, Evgeny Malkin
Ilya Kovalchuk, Alexander Radulov. Their d isn't great but they have Gonchar and Markov and Koltsov who while not in the nhl is a flat out star, I know him well he's a canuck prospect. Being on home ice should give them added incentive to play well.

Slovakia, + 1245 odds on them right now I jumped all over it. I don't know the entire roster but these guys are bringing their best line up to a tourny that others are bringing players to gain experience. Russias the exception but it's in Russia they'd love to win it on home ice. Check out this roster, if it gels it could be nuts...

Jaroslav Halak
Zdeno Chara
Milan Jurcina
Pavol Demitra
Richard Zednik
Marian Gaborik
Branko Radivojevic
Marian Hossa
Miroslav Satan

I locked in Canada @ 4.5 for 4 units by mistake in December. Not my proudest betting moment but I thought I was betting the junior championships that was taking place close to then and realized oops it was for the big boys. So i've had a k tied up for the last 4 months lol. If they win I win 4500

I locked in recently Russia @ + 276 for 5 units. If they win I win 3450

lastly I locked in Slovakia @ +1245 for 3 units. If they win I win 9337.50.

If canada wins, the result leaves me with 4500 - 2000 - 1000 = 1500 profit

If Russia wins, the results leaves me with 3450 - 1750 = 1700 profit

If Slovakia wins, the result leaves me with 9337.50 - 2250 = 7087.50 profit.

GO SLOVAKIA !!!

Course if any of the other teams win i'm down 3k for the tourny. Should be a fun tourny, if none of my teams win I'm blowing a bit over half of my profit from nhl betting this year.

Guess nobody else is betting it.

Saturday games:

Slovakia -2.5 @ -138 to win 3 units

My darkhorse pick to win the tourny, they have plenty of offensive talent and get a weak team to pick off in this first game. They have solid tending and should shut out this bad Norwegian squad. Gaborik might pot 3 himself in this game.

Sweden - 3.5 @ -143 to win 1 unit

Asking for a lot of goals but this isn't much of a italian squad. I expect the Swedes who are short on talent this year to play a solid team game. If any of todays scores are any indications even the lesser talented versions from the traditional hockey powers are laying the wood to these bad teams.

Canada - 3 @ + 104 x 1 unit

A lot is being made about the no shows for Canada but they still have a very solid defensive corps and some decent talent up front. I don't think they'll struggle here at all, I'm expecting them to roll actually. Murray will make sure they play solid team hockey from the net on out. I'm expecting a shutout with the style Canada will most likely employ. 5-0 type of game.

Canada wins the game 3-2, bet lost - 1 unit. What a pitiful performance vs a bad german squad. Doesn't say a lot for our team.

and the bad luck continues as I find out Demitra and Hossa haven't joined the Slovakian team yet, they wil next game and Gaboriks not in the line up today apparently. My biggest bet today and the reasons for the bet are on the sidelines. ugh

yeah definitely a weak goal for Rolie and Jiggy for that matter. I guess he's the number 1 guy there tho, Ward and Mason i'd feel just as comfortable starting. I don't think that any of them are that much better than the other at least Ward has a cup to his resume.

Ward had a horrible season. I think Mason will emerge as the number one.

You still making plays on this tourney? I think it might be a good idea to fade Canada when they actually play a decent team...

yup still am, figured nobody else was so stopped posting my plays. Canada does look like good fade material, when you can't lay the boots to Norway you're not much of a squad.

What do you like for tomorrow? I know very little about the first two games, but I'm thinking about Czech Republic -0.5 vs. the US...

tough call, Roman is a pretty known commodity so the US should be able to score. I can't say I trust the american tenders either but I wouldn't trust one side over another comfortably. If I were making a play on it i'd prolly take the live dog and go with the americans. No reason they can't win this with the bulk of czech national team playing buffalo tomorrow.

. If it were anywhere but Russia I would make the play on finland as I think the russians are gonna hate facing the style finlands gonna play but at home they might fight thru it.

Canada got a nice boost with Phaneuf joining the line up today. About time a young stud stepped up and joined.

Canada ml over Czech republic @ -130 to win 1 unit

The czech squads alive in this tourny cause there are some brutal teams but without their top end players this czech team is a joke. Canada might not be uber talented either but they have more top end talent than the czechs at this tourny, have better role players and better tending.

Finland + 124 x 1 unit over Sweden

Another overated team here in the Swedes. This isn't the swedish team that won olympic gold and had Lidstrom, Zetterberg, the Sedins, Sundin, Forsberg, Holmstrom and the list goes on. This one is full of Elite leaguers and up against a more complete Fin line up that is going to play tight defensive hockey. They have the better tenders and the better line up imo.

GL all

Finland the better team on the ice but couldn't score and I push on the canada game as all bets are regulation time only but canada won in extra time.
