Thumbs up Congrats China

Spectacular Opening Ceremonies In Beijing

The ceremony, in full-on HD and hi-fi sound, was a visual triumph on television. Having seen a lot of these, I can say that nothing has equalled it in presence, precision, and sheer force of humanity. Friends on the scene in the Birds Nest-- after rehydrating from the sweat bath that was the stadium -- agree with that assessment. It was stunning.

"When it comes to opening ceremonies," Bob Costas said, "retire the trophy." And he's right. It wasn't the most heartfelt, or the most original. But technically and artistically? Off the charts. Plus, the Chinese get it, about the flame in the cauldron: Make it big, baby.

HD- you have any pictures of the "fireworks" that weren't really fireworks....or how about the 7 year old girl who was lip syncing the words to the song that the chinese government wouldn't let the real girl sing live because she had buck teeth?

$100 million at least for a light show. How about they feed the fucking poor and homeless and or rebuild the damaged earthquake areas.

Was it cool, yea I guess. Just another thing that's wrong with this world though, IMHO. China can go fuck itself as far as I'm concerned.

i had to find the irony that the one girl they didn't think was representative of china because she had buck teeth so they wouldn't let her sing live and tried to make that other little girl the poster child for china and "everyone's darling" in that doesn't everyone in China pretty much have bad teeth?

I think it's too bad that China is such a giant shit bag as a country. I find myself really pulling for them to do horrible in everything. The fact that they are using 10 year olds for gymnastics (and they are. these girls were listed as young as 12 less than a year ago per many accounts and then their passports "magically changed"), felt the need to shit can the one girl who was singing because she had bad teeth (she's 7 for crying out loud), fake fireworks.......and they are one big human rights violation.

I say that because i think the chinese people are actually good people and the athletes seem fine and very respectful and cordial. It's just really hard to separate that from the overwhelming feelings you have towards china because of their government and the crap they pull.

Sucks when politics gets in the way of athletic achievements.

Was an amazing opening ceremony. Too bad the closing ceremony wasn't as good :)
