If the Match Play isnít your kind of things, there is still medal play going on this week. The PGA wants to take care of its rank-and-file membership on these WGC weeks and the Puerto Rico Open will run this week to give those outside the top-64 a chance to tee it up. This event has been a part of the Tour since 2008 and is the only PGA event to be hosted in Puerto Rico. Winners here get a nice bump in their career by earning a two year exemption and a berth in the Tournament of Champions and PGA Championship. The field is full of veteran players that are still out there looking to cash checks as well as youngsters who havenít quite had the time to crack that top-64 ceiling. Jason Day and Jordan Spieth both have runner-up finishes here from their early Tour days and many players have notched their first Tour win here. It may not be the best of the best but there are plenty of names you know in attendance and many that you will come to know as they advance their careers. Here are our picks to win the 2017 Puerto Rico Open.

Peter Uihlein (25 to 1 odds to win)
He isnít very well known in the pro ranks but the former Oklahoma State product won the 2010 U.S. Amateur and finished the year as the #1 ranked amateur in the world. He is a Euro Tour member and has not missed a cut over there in 2017 with three top-7 finishes in his last seven starts. Peter is 37th†in scoring average but is 14th†when you take out players that have yet to log at least twenty rounds. Tony Finau bombed his way to a win last year and Uihlein can do the same behind a 310 yard average drive. He hits a ton of greens and can go low when the putter is working well. A raw talent with a ton of international experience that is poised to win against the weaker field.

J.J. Spaun (45 to 1)
Spaun has made eight of thirteen cuts through the first portion of the schedule with back to back top-10 finishes just a while back at The Farmers and in Phoenix. He hasnít won on Tour yet but has visited the winnerís circle on the Web.Com Tour and PGA Tour Canada so there is a track record of success, especially against a like talented field. You arenít going to find a lot of statistically strong players outside the top-64 but J.J. isnít bad with a lot of ranks in the 40-60 range in key stats like fairways, greens in regulation and total driving. He is better than average overall with 88% of putts made inside of ten feet. If he can have a sharp week with his irons, that putter could propel a charge toward the top.

Cameron Tringale (66 to 1)
Picking a longshot in a field of longshots is a tricky thing but Cam is a little bit better than a simple dart throw. He has made seven cuts on the season and is not far removed from a nice T8 at Riviera against a very deep field. He is a solid player around the greens and is better than average with a top-75 rank in total putting. He is a fast starter when he does well so donít be surprised to see him on top of the leaderboard early and while he isnít a birdie machine most weeks, he does take advantage of the better opportunities on the course. Cam has a history of going very low on occasion and has three runner-up finishes on Tour so he has been close before. He is only 29 years old but has over 200 Tour starts to draw from with nearly $10 million earned over his career. A win is long overdue.
