MLB News and Notes: Mets P Pedro Martinez had a great showing in minor league ball and is looking to possibly come back as early as next week. A's slugger Frank Thomas was placed on the DL today. The A's replaced him on the roster with 3B Eric Chavez. Lastly, Rays closer Troy Percival was placed ond the 15 day DL. It's likely that P Dan Wheeler will see the brunt of the save opportunities while the hard throwing righty is on the mend. - 5/29
Retirement Accouncement: 2B Bret Boone has officially announced his retirement. Booney spent 14 years as a major leaguer. - 5/28

Monday MLB News and Notes: Jake Peavy will miss his next start citing elbow pain as the issue. When Rangers 3B Hank Blalock returns from injury this week, he'll be playing opposite of his normal position. (First Base). Maybe now the slugger can stay healthy. Red Sox start Bartolo Colon will make his season debut with the club on Wednesday. Lastly, "feel good" story Rich Ankiel is likely to see some time on the DL with a shoulder injury after he took a hard swing and came up lame recently. - 5/19

Oldest MLB Player to go Yard Retires: After a prosperous 23 year baseball career, 49 year old infielder Julio Franco has decided to hang'em up. Franco, who homered in 2007 at age 48 is the oldest player in MLB to record a homerun. Huge respect to Julio for sticking with the game he loves until the very end.
