Barbara Enright

Barbara Enright Biography
by Chad Holloway of Predictem.com

Barbara Enright was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She started playing five-card draw against her brother when she was only four years-old. Enright started playing in card rooms in 1976 and decided to pursue poker full-time after she began making more money playing poker than she was working as a cocktail waitress, bartender, and hairstylist.

Enright's first big win came at the 1986 World Series of Poker when she won the Women's Seven-Card Stud event ($16,400). In 1994, she became the first woman to win two W.S.O.P. bracelets when she again took down the Women's Seven-Card Stud event ($38,400); however, what many consider to be her greatest poker accomplishments came the following year when she became the first (and so far only) woman to make the final table of the Main Event, eventually finishing fifth at the 1995 W.S.O.P.. At the 1996 W.S.O.P., Enright again made poker history by winning the Pot Limit Hold'em event ($180,000), becoming both the first woman to win a W.S.O.P. open event and the first woman to win three W.S.O.P. bracelets.

Enright's other poker accomplishments include receiving the All Around Best Player Award at the 2000 Legends of Poker after making a remarkable six final tables in Limit Hold'em, No Limit Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Low, Seven Card Stud, and A-5 Lowball, appearing on Poker Royale: Battle of the Ages, winning the 2008 Cleopatra Open at Caesars Palace, outlasting ninety-five percent of the field to cash in the 2005 W.S.O.P., being part of the inaugural class (along with Susie Isaacs, Marsha Wagoner, and Linda Johnson) inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame in 2008, and being the first woman to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame on July 6, 2007 (being inducted alongside Phil Hellmuth) where the W.S.O.P. commissioner exclaimed: "The criteria and standards for induction into the Hall of Fame are high. A gambler must have played against top competition for high stakes, played well and gained the respect of his or her peers, and stood the test of time. Barbara and Phil clearly meet these high standards, and we are delighted to welcome them into the Hall of Fame as the Class of 2007."

Enright is a member of Team Paradise Poker and plays under the screen name "ItsOnlyMe." She has become a fan of internet poker because: "If you get up to go to the bathroom (in a casino), it will be about a fifteen minute wait for your blind to come back around so you can play. Online, less than a five minutes. You can also wash dishes and clean house between hands." Enright, who also works as a motivational speaker, is involved with fellow poker professional and author, Max Shapiro, and enjoys theatre, music, reading, and British Sitcoms. Her favorite movie is Gone with the Wind and her favorite music includes Blues, Sixties, Fifties, Doo-Wop, Musicals, and Old Country. She is currently Editor-in-Chief of Woman Poker Player magazine and has lifetime tournament winnings in excess of $1.2 million.
