Bluffing Terms

Bluffing Terms
by Jason Green of

e bluff is such a popular part poker that the word itself has many common terms associated with it. Bluffing terms are important to know, so when they come up in a game you know exactly what they mean and you are not in the dark. These bluffing terms are used often and they deal with various bluffing actions or bluffing behaviors. Knowing when to bluff when playing poker is very important, but you also need to know the terms that are associated with bluffing.

Here are some common bluffing terms:

- Advertise this is the act of telling other poker players how lose a player is in the early part of the game and how often they tend to bluff.

- Auto-bluff This is a lie and you tell other players at the table that you will win no matter what hand they have.

- Bull the game This is a bluff that is continuous by one player in any game.

- Coffee Housing This is deceiving other poker players by the language that you use.

- Crying Call If you make complaints during the game about the calls that are being made you are making a crying call. This is not really bluffing per say, but poker players will do this sometimes in order to draw their opponents attention away from the hand that they are currently playing.

- Draw Snow This is a bluff that is made before the draw and one that is made after the draw.

- Run-a-Pot This is winning by continually making a bluff during a certain time during a round of play.

- Sell selling is encouraging your opponents to increase the size of their wager because you have a combination of cards that is good. Basically to have a good sell you will not be betting the max amount, but you will be letting other players make the action by betting big.

- Semi-bluff The semi bluff is one of the bluffing terms that you should become familiar with. A semi-bluff is a bet on a weak hand, but may become strong with more cards dealt. This is especially the case if the player making the semi-bluff draws card/cards that they can significantly improve a really weak hand. A couple of examples of this would be straight possibilities or flush possibilities.

- The Trap Setting the trap is encouraging players to be comfortable with the bet they have made knowing you should win the pot.

- Snow Job A snow job is the conditions that happen after a successful bluff has occurred.

- Steal The steal is a bluffing technique when a player keeps raising during their turn in order to try to force the other players to get scared and fold.
