Caribbean Stud: Strategies and Statistics
By Wilson of Predictem.com
Caribbean Stud is not the same as blackjack or craps when it comes to trimming down the house edge, but that doesn’t mean players should run away from this escalating, popular casino table game. There are a lot good bets to be made in Caribbean Stud and players with a little knowledge can take advantage of recognizing when to hold’em or when to fold’em. Let’s take a look at some different strategies and statistics involved in Caribbean stud poker. The following are just examples and may vary depending on which casino you frequent, whether at online casinos or on land.
The perfect strategy in Caribbean stud can be compared to basic blackjack strategy. It can be very complicated and nearly impossible to memorize right away but over time most players can recall most of the correct plays depending on what the dealer is showing. Here are few pointers that may keep more cash in your money clip and maybe even make you a couple bucks along the way.
1. Always raise with a pair or higher
2. Always fold if you have less than the dealer’s qualifying hand (ace/king).
3. Always raise on an ace/king if you have any of the following scenarios
4. If the dealer’s card is a 2 through queen and matches one of yours.
5. If the dealer’s card is an ace or king and you hold a jack or queen.
6. Dealer’s card is less than your fourth highest card and you have a queen
Average Raise Payouts
If players follow the above strategy they can usually expect to see a house edge of 5.2 percent to 5.6 percent depending on the venue. The element of risk is the expected loss to the average bet or units bet based on the percentage of raises by the player. For example, a player may raise their bets 52.23 percent of the time for an average of 2 units per bet which works out to be 5.2/2.0 or 2.5 percent element of risk. Here some other numbers based on raised hands:
Raise ace/king or higher - House edge: 5.3 %
Raise on any pair or better - House edge: 5.47 %
Dealer’s up card matches players - House edge: 5.3 %
Blind (raise everything) - House edge: 16.6 %
Where to Play?
It’s no secret that the internet has taken over a lot of land-based business in the last ten to fifteen years. The online casino business is definitely a force to be taken seriously as there are literally hundreds of websites that offer casino action or links to casino action directly from the comfort of your own home. So, the question remains…where should you play your favorite casino games? I personally like the options at several different online casinos as they are constantly competing for your business. Many online casinos will offer huge discounts, free casino credit, and even sign up bonuses for players who decide to gamble on their site.
However, if you are old school or just simply like the feel and experience of actually going to a “real” casino then by all means go find a Caribbean stud table and enjoy the game. Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Indian casinos, and others will gladly welcome you to their establishments. I would recommend reading as many of our articles as possible before you toss your hard earned cash on the table of either an online casino or in sin city. It's always beneficial to know the odds you're facing before you approach any type of gambling.
Caribbean Stud may be a variation of poker but you must know the basic hands and rules of poker to understand this altered version of the game. Gambling can be very profitable if you do some ground work ahead of time, just like researching a golden stock or the safest car for your family; know before you go! Luck to ya.
