Cyndy Violette Biography
by Chad Holloway of Predictem.com
Cyndy Violette was born on August 19, 1959 in Queens, New York. At the age of 12, she relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada with her family. Violette was introduced to the game of poker on the kitchen table where she would often play with her family, especially her Uncle Ross. In the early 1980s, she worked as a blackjack and poker dealer at the Four Queens Casino in Las Vegas; however, she soon decided that she could make a better living playing poker rather than dealing it. In 1984, Violette won a seven-card stud tournament at the Golden Nugget for $74,000, which was the largest tournament cash by a woman at the time. Violette describes her experience: "After short stints dealing blackjack and poker in Las Vegas, I went to a Lake Tahoe Poker tournament in 1984. I built a small bankroll at the tournament which was all the proof I needed to make the decision to make Poker my profession of choice." Shortly after, she married her second husband and took a short hiatus from poker.
In 1990, Violette returned to the poker scene by winning $62,000 in a tournament at Caesar's Palace. Three years later, she divorced her husband and moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where poker was becoming legalized. She spent a summer living at the Taj Majal Hotel and Casino until purchasing a house in 1994. In 2004, Violette won a World Series of Poker bracelet in the seven-card stud eight-or-better event, becoming one of only three women (the others being Kathy Liebert and Annie Duke) to win a bracelet in an open tournament event that year.
She described her win as one of the crowing achievements of her poker career, "I achieved one of my dreams. I won the seven card stud high-low tournament of the World Series of Poker. I am proud of my World Series bracelet and the title as Poker champion." The next year, she almost won a second bracelet, finishing second to Erik Seidel in the $2,000 no-limit hold'em event. At the 2006 W.S.O.P., Violette cashed an impressive six times, including a third place finish in a seven-card stud event. Aside from playing in the W.S.O.P., Violette has appeared on the Poker Stars Invitational and was invited to appear on the World Poker Tour's Ladies Night II, finishing fifth. All told, Violette has more than thirty major-tournaments cashes.
Violette is a vegetarian with a strong belief in staying both mentally and physically fit. In fact, she hopes to one day own her own health food café. She is an avid reader and a very spiritual person, often seen playing poker with spirit stones in front of her. Violette, a member of Doyle's Room poker, has one daughter, Shannon, and currently splits her time between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Her career tournament winnings are in excess of $1.2 million.
