Let it Ride Poker
by K. Swope of Predictem.com
Let It Ride is the casino game version of a five-card stud poker game with the exception being players are trying to beat the “house” or casino rather than opposing players.
The game begins with each player required to place three separate bets usually labeled “1, 2, 3”; however, different casinos may name the third bet as an “ante” or simply “$”.
The dealer then gives each player three cards face down, that they may look at, but are not permitted to expose. The dealer receives two cards face down which will act as community cards that every player may use to create a five card hand. After receiving the three cards, and viewing the hand, players must then choose to remove the first bet placed or “let it ride”. By removing the bet the player reduces the potential payout on winning hands, but may save money on a possible losing hand.
After all players decide, the dealer turns one community card face up. At this point players must then choose again to remove the second bet, or as the game implies, “let it ride”. When a player is done making a decision on the second bet they are required to place their three cards face down in an area designated on the table and are no longer allowed handling or touching the cards. After this action is complete the dealer exposes the final community card. The third bet may not be removed by players, nor may previous bets be added back into play.
The dealer reveals all players hands removing losing cards and chips in a counter clockwise motion and making payouts to the remaining winning hands. The lowest winning hand at any level of Letitride is a pair of tens which pays out even money or one dollar for every dollar the player left remaining. Anything below a pair of tens is considered a losing hand. Many casinos offer what is called a bonus bet that gives additional payouts on five card hands that have made at least two pair or better. Also, some casinos have started offering a side bet, as well, which pays according to the player’s starting three card hand combination. Side bets reward players with even money for a pair, and more, for better starting hands. Both the bonus bet and side bet are not required to be played and may not be removed once placed. The bonus bets are usually the most lucrative of any payout offered in the game.
Most brick and mortar casinos have a minimum five dollar bet at the smallest “Let It Ride” tables making players start out on fifteen dollars to be dealt into the game. As for online casinos the action varies significantly per site.
A standard payout table for regular play without bonus or side bet enhancements is listed below. This is not a mandatory payout scale. It is at each casino’s discretion to change or manipulate this payout table as they deem necessary.
Standard Let it Ride Poker Payout Table:
Royal Flush 1000:1
Straight Flush 200:1
Four of a Kind 50:1
Full House 11:1
Three of a kind 3:1
Two pair 2:1
Pair of Tens of better 1:1
