Mike Caro Biography

Mike Caro was born on May 16, 1944. He is widely recognized as one of professional poker's top theorists and authors. Caro gained popularity in the poker world in 1978 when he contributed fifty statistical tables and wrote the chapter on draw poker in Super System. Doyle Brunson has even called Caro "the finest draw player alive."
Caro has also written numerous other books including: The Body Language of Poker, Bobby Baldwin's Winning Poker Secrets, Caro on Gambling (a collection of his columns published in Gambling Times magazine), Mike Caro's Book of Poker Tells, Caro's Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker, Official Rules of Poker, Gambling Times Quiz Book, Master Hold'em and Omaha Poker, New Poker Games - Descriptions and rules of esoteric or newly invented poker variants, Odds Quick and Simple, Professional Hold'em Play by Play, Poker at the Millennium by Mike Caro & Mike Cappelletti, and Poker for Women: A Course in Destroying Male Opponents at Poker and Beyond.
Caro has been nicknamed "The Mad Genius of Poker" because of his analytical and academic approach to the game. He even went so far as to open the Mike Caro University of Poker which aims to "merge Mike's own research with the collective wisdom of other great poker minds into a one-of-a-kind learning center teaching poker strategy and psychology." In 1984, Caro was named the Chief Strategist for the newly opened Bicycle Casino. That same year, at the World Series of Poker, he demonstrated ORAC (Caro backwards), a poker-playing computer program that he had written, which was the world's first serious attempt at an AI poker player. Two years later, in 1986, he became the general manager of the Huntington Park Casino. Caro is also credited with being the first to bring a world-class poker tournament to the East Coast. In 1992, at Foxwoods Resort Casino, Caro started the World Poker Finals, which was the first tournament to use the four-color deck and to bring corporate sponsorship to poker tournaments.
Caro, a former editor-in-chief of Poker Player magazine and senior editor of Gambling Times magazine, has gained recent popularity because of his extensive research on poker tells. He has appeared on the World Poker Tour's "Poker by the Book" invitational and cashed at the WPT's 2004 Legends of Poker. His other poker accomplishments include cashing four times at the 2006 World Series of Poker and placing sixth at the 2005 Poker Superstars Invitational tournament. Caro has lifetime tournament earnings totaling more than $110,000.
