Ted Forrest

Ted Forrest Biography
by Chad Holloway of

Ted Forrest was born on September 24, 1964 in Syracuse, New York. Forrest began playing cards at an early age and did quite well, winning enough money to attend Lemoyne College in New York, though he did not graduate. As fate would have it, his father passed away and Forrest made the decision to leave college nine credits short of a degree. Forrest does not regret the decision however, claiming he is not the type to work an office job. Eventually Forrest moved out west to pursue a poker career. He honed his skills while working as a prop player and poker dealer at the Palace Station: "I didn't waste my time in the box. I studied the players and tried to improve. I was amazed, especially in Hold'em, at the frequency with which I could figure out a player's exact hole cards."

In 1992, Forrest was named the Best All-Around Player at the L.A. Poker Classic, but it wasn't until the following year that he had a breakthrough in the poker world. At the 1993 World Series of Poker, Forrest won a remarkable three bracelets: $1,500 Seven Card Stud ($77,400), $1,500 Omaha eight-or-better ($120,000), $5,000 Seven Card Stud ($114,000). Over a decade later, Forrest added two more bracelets to his list of W.S.O.P. accomplishments winning the 2004 $1,500 Seven Card Stud event ($111,440) and the 2004 $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event ($300,300).

Unfortunately, his three 1993 W.S.O.P. bracelets were stolen, so he made sure to take extra care of his two 2004 bracelets, one of which he gave to his daughter and locking the other one away. Forrest's other poker accomplishments include placing fifth at the Bellagio Five-Star World Poker Tour Championship ($119,994), second at the 2005 WPT Mirage Poker Showdown ($579,386), fourth at the 2005 WPT L.A. Poker Classic ($263,487), winning a Professional Poker Tour event, as well as appearances on High Stakes Poker and Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament. In 2006, Forrest defeated Erik Seidel, Chad Brown, Ernie Dureck, Sam Farha, "Sheiky" Shahram Sheikhan, and Jesus Ferguson to win the National Heads-Up Poker Championship and the $500,000 first prize. The following year he won the WPT's 2007 Bay 101 Shooting Stars Tournament, outlasting J.J. Liu in the longest heads-up battle in the tour's history to take home $1,125,000.

Forrest, who is considered one of the best Stud players in the world, was part of the group of poker players called "The Corporation" that played heads-up against Texas billionaire Andy Beal. Aside from the W.S.O.P. bracelets that he has won, Forrest also has a bracelet in his possession that used to belong to the 1992 W.S.O.P. World Champion, Hamid Dastmalchi. As the story goes, Dastmalchi was upset that the bracelet wasn't worth what the Binion family claimed so he said, "They say it's worth $5,000, but I'd take $1,500 for it," to which Forrest replied "Sold," and tossed him three $500 chips. Forrest is a member of Team Full Tilt, where he plays under the name "profbackwords." He enjoys water skiing, jet skiing, snow skiing, and playing tennis. Forrest currently resides in Las Vegas and has more than $5.1 million in career tournament earnings.
