2-7 Triple Draw Tips and Advice
by Hank Cashman of Predictem.com
Any triple draw game is a pot building game. In these games players have a tendency to keep hoping for that last card to bail them out. These games also have the bad problem of letting players take that last draw that ruins their hand. Hey, that’s poker.
Deuce to Seven is a lowball game. In this game there are straights & flushes and they count against you, so toss them. Therefore, 2-3-4-5-7 is the nuts. Pairs do count against you. So, an unpaired low hand is the best hand. Aces are always counted as the highest card.
Dealing is the same as draw poker. The cards are dealt one at a time beginning left of the dealer and moving clockwise. The player left of the dealer is the small blind and the big blind is to his left.
After each player has five cards the betting begins left of the big blind. Betting is usually structured by the first two rounds being half of the last two rounds. So, after the cards are dealt, the first round of betting might be in increments of a hundred. After the flop and river the betting would then go to two hundred.
Once the betting round is complete each player, starting with the first player left of the dealer, can choose to draw cards. If you think you have a winner you will “stand pat” and not draw any cards. This is a very good move to make, since it tells your opponents that you already have a winner. This also a very good bluff if you can pull it off.
After everyone has drawn their cards there is another round of betting at the same level as the first. Again after the betting is complete the players have another chance to draw cards.
This time there is a betting round but at double the previous amount. After the betting is finished there is the last opportunity to draw. That is followed by the last betting round.
In deuce to seven, the top four hands are any that have the low card as a deuce and the high card as the seven. This means that you will have five cards but no straight since one card in the sequence will be missing.
You should draw one card, if you have four cards in your hand that are no higher than an eight with no pair or flush possibility. These are very strong starting hands. By the same analogy, if you have two cards eight or higher, toss them in for two more.
When drawing cards, be wary of the straights and flushes. If you have a pair and one of them is suited with another card, toss it. You are looking to make a four card straight but be careful you don't hit the fifth card.
If you feel you need to draw four or five cards, your best bet is to fold. Don't try to pull the miracle hand. The odds are too high against you.
Deuce to Seven is a great game and can be very profitable if played well.
Keep the cards and chips flying.
