If you really like gambling and taking a serious risk then this system may be for you. The idea first surfaced in the 1800’s by the French. The system is incredibly easy. The French use to flip a coin and bet on which side would land up, heads or tales, or whatever the coin’s sides represented. For example, if a bet was made on a coin showing “heads” the player would lose if it showed “tails” thus the player would then double the size of their original wager in an attempt to win back what they lost plus make a profit. Let’s take look at how this system would play out on a roulette table.
Most players use the Martingale system while wagering on the outside bets offered on the roulette layout. Mainly, players favor red or black, and odd or even, but the system can be used on just about any bet. If a player wagered $5 on red and won, the player would receive $5 plus their original $5 as the pay-off for a winning bet on red is 1 to 1. The next wager for the player would be to simply bet $5 again. Player’s don’t add to their original winning wager. If the little white ball stops on red again then the player simply repeats the process. Easy money!
What happens when a player loses a bet? If a player makes a $5 wager on red and the little white ball lands on black then the player loses the $5. To follow the Martingale system, the player must double the amount of their original wager immediately. For example, now the player would bet $10 on red in order to win back the original $5 they lost plus the added $5. Unfortunately, if a player goes on a losing streak they must continue to double their previous wager in an attempt to win back all of their loses and make a profit. This is when the system becomes very dangerous because there is no guarantee that the little white ball will land on red. Remember, if a player betting $5 loses five times in a row that player will need to wager $160 on their sixth bet in order to cover all of the previous loses and clear a $5 profit. Wow, that’s a lot of money to wager just to win $5! Yes, the Martingale system can be extremely dangerous.
There is another level to the Martingale system which is also known as the Grand Martingale system. In the Grand Martingale a player attempts to simply win more money while chasing their loses by adding more money to their bet following a loss. Is this crazy? I don’t have a big enough calculator to do the math on these potential numbers but you can imagine the monetary damage.
Surely any sane person will recognize the risk involved with the Martingale system. Hey, that’s why it’s called gambling, right? Well, this classic system has been around for hundreds of years and it is still used everyday at roulette tables around the world. As a player you must know that the roulette wheel is just a wheel, it has no memory of the last five numbers or colors. The color red can appear twice in a row or two hundred times in a row.
