Eto'o to Stay Put in Barcelona?
by Jason Green of Predictem.com
While the have been many reports linking star striker Samuel Eto'o may be on the move from Barcelona, but the La Liga and Champions League winner have recently offered him a two-year contract extension to stay put.
Manchester City in the Premier League was targeting the Cameroon striker, but according to a report from Sky Sports, Barcelona has offered Eto'o a new two-year contract extension. It is thought that Manchester City had made a bid for around €29.3 million. It has been speculated that la Blaugrana head coach Pep Guardiola wants the striker to leave the Nou Camp this year even though he has one year left on his present contract.
However, Jose Maria Masalles, who is Eto'o's agent has stated that his client may not want to move elsewhere, as Masalles stated, "The player wants to stay and complete the last year of his contract. If Barca don't want him they should say so, so we can pursue the player's future in a professional manner. The club said coach Pep Guardiola did not want him. Guardiola has not told the player he is not required."
Eto'o may have been irked by how Barcelona have acted in the off-season, but he seems to be happy to stay with the Spanish giants, but has still not ruled out moving to Manchester City.
Mesalles stated, "If they have a serious offer from Manchester City, and if they want to continue with this negotiation we could be interested. We haven't spoken to City but if Barca have reached an agreement it shouldn't be that difficult to reach a deal."
It may be a good idea for Barcelona to keep Eto'o in Barcelona since their rivals have made a huge splash in the off-season with the signing of Kaka and Christiano Ronaldo.
