Arsenal makes bid for Real Madrid Striker Huntelaar
by Jason Green of Predictem.com
Recent reports have stated that striker starved Arsenal have made a bid for €17.3m bid for Real Madrid's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. They are trying to land the striker from Holland even though Arsenal rivals Tottenham also want his services. The UK's Sunday Express that that Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger wants to sign Huntelaar as a replacement at forward since Emannuel Adebayor recently signed with Manchester City. Arsenal has cash to spend since Adebayor is gone, but they tend to bring in young players rather then spend big bucks on big name players.
Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has recently said that Huntelaar "has no place in this team", and that the Dutchman turned down a move to Stuttgart of the German Bundesliga last week.
It is the belief that the 25-year old Huntelaar wants to play for a Premier League club next season. Even though it is the case that Tottenham has shown interest to sign him, Arsenal has the edge to land him. It also may be more attractive for Huntelaar to play for Arsenal, as they have a better chance to win the Premier League title this season and they are automatically qualified to play in this season's Champions League.
Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano has admitted that Real Madrid need to sell off some of their players before they can add any more players to the big names they have already brought in. Real would like to do this ASAP, as they are very interested in signing Xabi Alonso from Liverpool.
Huntelaar moved from Ajax to real Madrid in January for a €20 million transfer fee and had 8 goals in 20 matches in the 2nd half of the La Liga season. If Arsenal does not pick up one or two legit strikers their offense may struggle to score goals this season.
