Yeah you're right. I was looking from the point of government-wise (the Republic part not the Caesars Part lol), and other aspects. It can be said most of our inspiration in terms of philosophy when building this country and its constitution came from Britain and Rome.

This is sidetracking, but we aren't the only ones with nuclear bombs, we aren't the only ones to make it to space, heck we weren't even the FIRST!

My point or my thought was when including the Romans was that the Roman Republic lasted 500 years, and overall 2,800 YEARS of existence. In the wide span scope of human civilization, the American Civilization dwarfs the Romans by comparison, when you're just discussing the existence, I realize the two are like comparing apples to snow tires as you so put it LOL. The American civilization or better the American Republic is only essentially 232 years old!

I just wanted to point out that though its less likely that American civilization will collapse, if it were to do so, in the grand scheme of human existence, the world will go on!

The Romans had their own problems, and being the only "superpower" and hub of civilization, they were ripe for collapse and/or turmoil, but again in terms of us, this brings up the point that we are stupendously arrogant. While the Romans were really the only big dog on the block and the central base in terms of everything from culture, education, technology to commerce, it is not so in todays world. America may be the big dog for now on the block, or would like to think so, but there are vast other countries who are on par in terms of culture, education, technology, and commerce and whatever else that is relative.

I realize we are talking about domestic issues and a few foreign ones as well, but the mood of everyone seems almost apocalyptic. It would definitely suck to see America go down the toilet, like She seems to be headed that way, but geez have we not seen (better yet) read about worst throughout our still freaking young history? We have rebound before, and hopefully we will rebound!

Beerman just clarifying my earlier point, though I try to make it comprehensible I am stupid enough to type some drivel as well

the some is the 30% who still support this man, half of whom are probably family friends or richass oil moguls who benefitted from his help

and the rest would be 70% of the rest of America.

well this would be the standard 4% error or so polls have, so a few thousands off?

this thought from the same man who told soldiers dying and fighting in Iraq they are not Patriotic just because they dont want to be there? that they dont want to fight there?

btw whoever wrote this..... isn't necessarily a bad person, but very good with words and very ingenuous at spinning various topics to fit the overall theme of the essay. Though most may be false, some may be true, or all true, or all B.S.

it still stands that Bush couldn't write this on his own, couldn't read this on his own without bobbing his head and squinting his eyes real small, nor could he make it through all 16 or more paragraphs without saying...."Uhmm".

now THATS the truth. (or at least as close as you can get)

lol owning up to anything is not in Bush's repertoire. Nor is the word: repertoire.

and whoopty doo, we know what Crawford, TX is. who the **** cares?! the ****er spent more time there than in the White House, what does that say?

I honestly think though things look bleak, can they be worst? yes! can they be better? yes!

in the long scope of things, this country has seen worst, so all this bitching may be for naught.

then again, the history of the world shows, that not everything is constant.

this civilization is always compared to the Romans, and look where they are.

everyone has a peak, and unfortunately with every peak there is also a bottom.

what does this mean for us? jack ****. though things may be bad, will get worse, or whatever...if America fell, the world will still go on. thats just facts.

the arrogance of Americans have been well-documented and this to me is no different. Things are bad, can be better, and can be made better. Despite what we like to think, we can do something about it, and we will. So while many (including me) think Bush screwed us all up. Thank Goodness (God for me) that it was only 8 years, though the after shock may last longer, we have the right and the privilege to change that. Even if it means Obama, another freaking Clinton, or even (gasp) McCain, and though blame is ready and always laid to the president, we all know its not all his fault, but he/she can and will have the means to change things more than the average American.

Things can always be worse man. We bitch about all that tax we pay, but at the end of the day you're not scrounging for food or living pay check to pay check, or you know...

Sadly a lot of Americans are....

One thing I like right now and that is Obama is against Nafta!!! That would go a long way to start cleaning up the damage this administration has let take place. (and the Clinton Admin) Unfortunately it also means higher taxes, and more liberal policies!! I don't think Obama is going to be beat at this point though and being the first black president he's going to want to make a lot of the right choices when he's in office. Maybe he can reach across the isle but his voting record so far is right down party lines. I'm not sure if that is by choice or if being in Illinois he had to vote those ways to survive.
