Mattingly gets dicked, Girardi to get offered Yanks managerial job

Joe Torre is one of the greatest clubhouse managers but as a tactician in baseball he is not good. I really can't think of any managers that could coach that clubhouse, owner and media market. -
I think Tony Larussa is the most overrated manager in the history of baseball, myself. He has done less with more than anyone i can think of. He got swept by the Reds in 1990 and the Dodgers in 1988. At least Phil Jackson won when he had the best talent. Too much is made of "managing" moves in games like all the lefty righty bullshiat. Larussa has managed himself right out of games multiple times.
As for Torre, i think he is a good manager. Would he have had the same success managing my Reds for the past 12 years....seriously doubt it. I put him in the Phil Jackson category....always had some of the best talent. But then again, you have to still win with it and there have been plenty of managers/coaches who have done less with more in sports, that is for sure.Leave a comment:

Joe Torre, one of the most overrated managers of our lifetime or THE most overrated manager of our lifetime. Discuss.Leave a comment:

Overpaid fossil is a good way to put it. You have to laugh. The Yankees will probably want Mike Stanton back in about 3 years when he is 44 years old, as they look at what he did for them back in '96 vs. the Rangers.......:laughing:What I'd like to know is why they give a **** if over the hill Mariano Rivera signs an out of control contract with someone else?
He's clearly not the pitcher he used to be. Still good, but not worth the money it seems he will command. If you can get him back at a fair price, then fine....if not, goodbye.
Signings like that are the reason the Yanks continue to lose with the highest payroll in baseball IMO.
Seems like from what I'm hearing, Girardi has a plan to move on past some of these overpaid fossils though. Guess time will tell if he's allowed to execute it or not, or if Steinbrenner will just insist on signing guys like Roger Clemens to 20 million dollar deals to pitch like 8 games
The one thing i will say about Boston is that i don't think (other than crapsusaka) that they grossly overpaid for anyone. Lowell, Ortiz, Schilling, Beckett and Ramirez all pulled their weight in the playoffs. Plus they did have young guys like youkilous, pedroia and ellsbury that contributed. BOS is just as big a joke as NYY when it comes to their payroll and trying to buy a championship, but at least they made some good decisions on who to give tons of money to.Leave a comment:

I don't agree with that at all. They still need to get a couple starting pitchers, and are going to have to pay Cano and Wang very soon. They are going to throw boatloads of money at Miguel Cabrera and Johan Santana this next coming offseason, plus they will bring in Torii Hunter or Andruw Jones or someone $15-20 million OF'er to add to to Melky and Matsui and Abreu.
The are going to have to give Mariano an insane contract (3 years $60 million, anyone?) so the Phillies don't get him, and Posada is going to get $12-15 million for 3-4 years too which is crazy considering he;s a catcher and his age.Leave a comment:

They didn't screw over Mattingly at all. He even said himself he was never promised the job after Torre was gone. Also, word here is that Girardi absolutely blew the Yankee brass away in his interview with his plan for the future and what direction the team should go in having specific things for all the young kids and the team as a whole. Mattingly obviously did not impress them nearly as much.
Sadly for us Yankee haters, they made the second best choice (Torre being the first).Leave a comment:

Girardi is getting paid more than 1.3...More like 2.3What's funny is that Girardi is getting a 3 yr deal around 7 million dollars while Terry Francona will be making just 1.7 million next season. Gotta love it! 1 yr manager gets about 1.3 million while a manager who's won 2 world series in just 4 yrs gets 1.7 hahaahaha
Francona will probably get a new contract...He has tooLeave a comment:

got to credit girardi for parlaying 1 great year into manager of the yankees.... problem for the yankees is that 1 year could very well have been a fluke... not saying it was, but you never knowLeave a comment:
