UFC 134: Rio – Silva vs. Okami 2
    Date: August 27, 2011
    Venue: HSBC Arena
    Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

    Main Bouts (On Pay-Per-View):
Anderson Silva (28-4) vs. Yushin Okami (26-5)
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (19-5) vs. Forrest Griffin (18-6)
Brendan Schaub (8-1) vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-6-1)
Ross Pearson (12-4) vs. Edson Barboza Jr. (8-0)
Luis Cane (11-3) vs. Stanislav Nedkov (11-0)

    Preliminary Bouts (On Spike TV):
Paulo Thiago (13-3) vs. David Mitchell (11-1)
Thiago Tavares (15-4-1) vs. Spencer Fisher (24-7)

    Preliminary Bouts (On Facebook):
Mike Swick (14-4) vs. Erick Silva (12-1)
Rousimar Palhares (12-3) vs. Dan Miller (13-5)
Yuri Alcantara (24-3) vs. Antonio Carvalho (13-4)
Yves Jabouin (15-7) vs. Ian Loveland (14-8)
    Raphael Assuncao vs. Johnny Eduardo

Already have Forrest Griffin +175 and Yushin Okami +325.

Always been a big fan of Griffin, and will present a different challenge for Rua. Coming off a depressing loss to the hands of Jon Jones, Rua will look to rebound. Both fighters are different from the first time they meant years ago when Griffin shocked the MMA world... but should Rua be a -200+ fave? No.

Okami was the last man to "beat" Silva. Even though it was an illegal up-kick from Silva that earned Okami the NC win... it's still a win. Do I think Okami will do what Sonnen did to Silva - no. But he'd be smart to do so. Of course Silva's advantage is his striking, and his weakness his wrestling... but we know Okami has unorthodox striking, and seems to want to trade his opponents. He's got impressive wins, but rarely finishes - I'm hoping Okami can get into the clench, avoid the Muai Thay plumb, get Silva down and score some points.

    Palhares/Schaub/Barbosa +155 for two units

The good news for you is I am on

    Anderson Silva
    Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

havent been doing well in my fight picking as of last few cards, but to me, these 2 fights are big no brainers, Silva wants to pound this guys face in, a focused silva is a bad silva for you....

forest is slowing down, shogun lost to bones jones, only a few guys i can think of right now that can even make a fight with bones jones, (Loyoto Machita, Rashad Evans, Anderson Silva) Shogun wasnt in fight shape first time around with forest, Forest deserves credit for the late round win, but this fight will be much different, i expect shogun to dominate most the fight on the ground on top of forest in guard.. pounding him, than late 2nd round early 3rd round shogun knocks forest out...

I just hope silva finishes that piece o crap okami in the first round, ill root for forest to win, always liked him, i just think he is at his chuck lidel point of his career and he is just gonna rapidly decline...:eeek:

Dukies, I love that we are able to banter about this. Wish more would post about fighting!!

Do I think Okami has a chance? Yes. But it's a very little tiny small chance he wins. He likes to strike, and that may get him in trouble. BUT, he does train with Sonnen, and you bet your ass Chael wants Okami to win. In fact, I believe Sonnen will be in his corner. I have to take these odds.

Shogun... ugh, he looked so lackluster against Jones, but Bones makes everyone look as such. Shogun gassed early, and just didn't look great. Yes, we're looking at a home-field advantage - and that will work for Shogun, but I Forrest is one of my favorite fighters and again... I see the lines inflating because of that home-field advantage, and it won't affect Griffin.

How can you say Forrest is slowing down? He's always had the chin and the cardio, and yeah your chin can go at any time, but usually there's word coming from camps, but I haven't heard anything... Sure he hadn't fought in a while, but I backed him against Franklin a few months ago and he won a nice fight. They're getting older, yes... but speaking of old... Silva is 36 years old...

      Either way, I think/hope we'll have a great card.

Here are forest griffins Ufc Career fights, Above the dashed line is his first 8 fights in a span of 2 years 5 months

Below the dashed line is the last 3 years 5 months where he has only 5 fights 2 of which he got knocked the "f" out...

Silva is old too yes, But silva hasnt been rocked, so his brain damage is minimal to none at age 36 as to where forest has been rocked hard 2 of his last 3 fights...

Im not saying forest has brain damage, but as many hits as he has taken over his career i dont see him as he used to be, i see a more timid fighter, a guy who is looking to wrestle more than exchange blows, some say wisdom and fight strategy, i say bull honkey that guy is avoiding that feeling of "where the **** am i"

Shogun is not as in good of shape/position as he used to be either, but shogun also was the ufc 205 champion going into his last fight, he just ran into a young cat in his prime ready to rip up the light heavy class,

i see forest as tito ortiz, great fighters, but i see both as guys you put in fights because they draw viewers, not because they are serious title contenders even as much as us the fans would like them to be, shogun is/was/did the whole title contender/hold the belt thing he has still got "it" im not saying forest will lose this fight for sure, because i think SILVA is the Sure thing, and it wouldnt suprise me if forest stepped up and beat him again in a decision, But From what i have watched i think forest is coming to that point where he is gonna call it quits and become a great coach for the up and coming...

Great call on Noguiera... was not impressed by the way he was handling the first round keeping his hands low and getting tagged a few times... but just like in the Nedkov/Cane fight, a nice combo rips it up!!
