Navarrete vs Suarez Saturday 5/20 ESPN

    Boxing recap: 1-0
    Record: 1-1
Review: Last time in I had the Under 9' rounds prop on freaky boy Fundora. He scored a KO in the fourth round.

    Tonight . . .

When you see a boxer who's 36 years old but only has 18 professional fights it's hard to take him seriously.

Emanuel Navarrete is an old-for-boxing 30, but he's still six years younger than Charly Suarez (18-0, 10 by KO.)
Navarrete (record 39-2, 32 by KO) has the advantage in height (one inch) and reach (seven inches.)
    And age.

    Experience?
In his pro career Navarrete has fought in 246 rounds.
    Suarez? 123.
Exactly half as many rounds as Navarrete.

    My buy:
Navarrete by KO, TKO or DQ, +100

    #2
    Update #1:

    Trouble already.

Navarrete had trouble making weight at 130.
This happens all the time in boxing, and has happened to Navarrete before, but according to the announcers he had to make multiple trips to the sauna to sweat off the weight and was supported by his trainers after his last trip to the sweat box.

How is his stamina going to be tonight?

If round one is any indication this is not going to distance. I
Navarrete is hammering Suarez but took a few shots himself.

Round two, Navarrete is not being careful at all, he's going to get caught with a counter from Suarez.

Round three, Navarrete is swinging wildly, it's almost like he knows he's not going to have the stamina to go 12 rounds and wants to end this early. Dangerous gambit.
Tim Bradley just said what I just wrote - Navarrete looks like he doesn't want to go 12 rounds tonight.
    Round three goes to Suarez.

Round four Suarez has Navarrete backing up.
Navarrete retreating but then with 37 seconds left Navarrete rocks Suarez and has him on rubber legs!

Round five goes to Navarrete. Still not sure either of these guys can go 12 rounds at this pace.

Round 6 - Uh oh, accidental headbutt (?) and Navarrete has a huge gash over his left eye, it's pouring blood. The doctors looking at it
Replay shows it was a punch not a headbutt!
Navarrete can't see out of his right eye, if Suarez doesn't end this the doctors probably will.

A desperate Navarrete lands a killer punch to the body and has Suarez running away. Then in the final 2 seconds Suarez rocks Navarette with an overhand right because Navarrete can't see out of his left eye, doesn't see the punch coming.

Ref rules the cut came from a head butt not a punch.

Round 7 Suarez is in control. Navarrete is emptying the tank throwing a lot of punches, he knows he can't go too much longer. Stamina coming into play now too, Navarrete's legs aren't unsteady.

In between rounds now and the doctor is looking at Navarrete.
Cutman can't stop the bleeding, the doctor calls the fight off.

And now the announcers are saying it was a punch not a head butt that caused the cut.

Commissioners review the tape and say it's inconclusive so the refs ruling stands - accidental head butt.

ESPN official scorer has Navarrete up by three rounds.
They cut to commercial, decision when they return.
A technical decision - but for who?

    Final Update:
Navarrete wins but I lose because a technical decision is not a KO, TKO or DQ.

I liked the fight to go Under 10' rounds but the price was -160 so I thought a better option would be to go with the guy I thought was going to win and get even money on KO, TKO or DQ.
If I was right that Navarrete would win (and I was) and that it wouldn't go 10', (it didn't), then the only thing that could screw me is . . . a rare technical decision. And that's what happened.
Still, my favorite sport to bet on.
