i kind of get the feeling that the lower seeded teams weren't what they have been in past years with minor exceptions like VCU. LBSU is just junk......junk team from a junk conference. I think D1 needs a 1-AA like in football for some of these conferences like the MAAC, BigWest, BigSky, SoCon, SWAC etc......

Of the 336 D1 teams, you could get rid of half of them and make a nice 1-AA tourney of 32 teams. MAAC, SWAC, SoCon, OVC, BigWest, BigSky, Southland, Northeastern, Mt.St.Marys conference whatever that is, ORU's conference...that's like 140 teams right there

if people did not relaize that a story like George Mason is wonderful because it is so rare, not because it is a trend.
As quick and relentless as VCU is, if Pitt has any sense at all, and they may not, as I consistently have seen them ignore Gray all year, they could absolutely destroy VCU from inside.

But who knows....Winthrop is leading at half, and VCU may advance past Pitt...but after seeing Albany, well, that was just a bad joke of a game.

Horatio i agree. I still think that you can take conferences like the CAA and take the top teams and put them in other conferences and drop teams like William and Mary to 1-AA. I see no reaso to have half of these teams in 1-A when they play in front of 1000 fans a night and are NEVER competitive at all vs. anyone decent. You could take the top programs from a few conferences like Davidson, Winthrop, VCU, Drexel, ODU and make a new D-1 conference and put all the rest of the dredges together in a couple 1-AA conferences. It just is worthless to have the SWAC and some of these conferences taking up spots in a 1-A tourney. They aren't competitive. I don't know why basketball doesn't do what football does and split it up. Can you imagine if football did what hoops did and UMASS got a BCS spot for winning their conference. The conferences i listed are never competitive in the tourney or in regular season with any of the top schools for the most part and should go form their own 1-AA. They can still play 1-A schools during the season.

then tell me why W2.........there are teams in these conferences that haven't finished in the top 1/2 of their conference in 20 years. so if you disagree, then find me a team in those conferences that belongs.....

Winthrop dominating now, what a run they are on. All of these games are terrific so far, hope we get some games like this tonight.
