I have four free tickets to the MAC tourney today and can't find anybody to go......that lackluster first game is in 13 minutes and the Kent game at 2PM. May have to go by myself and hit Flannery's for a couple afterward. Just hate the 1hr 45min solo drive......:bang:

Great to see ya bro.....gonna have a Wurstein or two to celebrate the occasion.....:beerbang:

Here's a little MAC preview for ya:

Anybody remember Kent making a run into the Elite 8 in 2002 led my Trevor Huffman and now all-pro tightend Antonio Gates? How about Wally's World (Szczerbiak) leading Miami,OH to the Sweet16 in 1999. Those are the last two years that the MAC made some real noise in the Big Dance. However, this year the MAC is back to it's per usual status as a one-bid league. Ball State won the Western Division with a LOSING RECORD in conference play while 5 teams in the Eastern Division had better records than the Cardinals. They have to change their seeding process for sure. Here's a look at the contenders playing at the Q in Cleveburgh!

                  1. Bowling Green (18-12, 11-5) – Top-seeded went to the Falcons, by beating Buffalo twice this season as both finished with the same record. Three players averaging double figures, led by Nate Miller’s 12.7 ppg. Unbelievably BG lost games to Eastern Michigan (8-23), Canisius (11-20), Central Arkansas (10-19), and independent Savannah State who is just four years removed from a 0-28 season. BG beat possible quarterfinal foes Western Michigan once and Ohio twice, so their biggest challenge to the finals should come from Miami or Akron in the semis.

                  2. Ball State (13-16, 7-9) – How the MAC can give the second overall seed and first round bye to a sub-.500 team coming in on a three game losing streak it total buffoonery. They'll face a fellow Western Division foe (CMU or EMU), teams they split with in the regular season. BSU did beat Buffalo, a potential semifinal opponent and they do have Anthony Newell!

                  3. Buffalo (19-10, 11-5) – Bull were the preseason favorite but lost four straight before winning two of their final three, including a win over Miami and an OT loss at resurgent Kent State. They played UConn tough in a 68-64 loss and posted the biggest non-conference win of any MAC school by beating Temple by 10. The way Rodney Pierce goes so do the Bulls. The Bulls could face Ball State in the semi finals and that would be considered an upset but by seed only....note the Bulls record! A second round matchup versus Kent State is possible and they split during the regular season.

                  4. Miami (17-12, 10-6) – The Redhawks 50-45 overtime win over Bowling Green gave Miami a sweep over the Falcons to win a tiebreaker over Akron. The Falcons are also a potential semifinal foe for the Redhawks . The Redhawks don't blow anybody out and like to slow the game down and take advantage of turnovers and mistakes and turn them into points better than anybody in the MAC. Charlie Coles is a wonderful coach. As the 4th seed they are in the toughest bracket with Akron, and #1 seeded BG. Their tough non conference schedule included losses to West Virginia, Pitt, UCLA, Dayton, and Xavier.

                  5. Akron (19-12, 10-6) – The Zips were screwed by the MAC’s tournament seeding, losing a potential bye to Ball State. The Zips face Toledo team in the first round, a team with a 7-24 (5-11) record. If they don't mis-step the Zips will face a rested Miami team in the quarterfinals. The teams split during the regular season. BG & Miami are the biggest obstacles in the path of Akron's road to the finals. In losing to Kent, Akron lost the #4 seed and got a worse bracket draw than the Flashes did.

                  6. Kent State (18-13, 10-6) – Kent is the red-headed step child of the MAC, winning the same amount of MAC games as Akron and Miami, but getting none of the recognition. They finished by winning 10 of their last 12 games, closing with wins over Buffalo and Akron at home, and losing at Bowling Green by 1 and by 4 at Miami. Northern Illinois took the Flashes to overtime in the regular season after Kent won four straight road games. The finals go through Buffalo. Kent is 1st in scoring in the MAC and their bigs played great down the stretch. That will have to continue if they are going to win at least two games and stretch their streak of 20-game win seasons to 12!

                  The rest of the field:

                  7. Central Michigan (11-18, 7-9)
                  8. Western Michigan (10-20, 7-9)
                  9. Ohio (14-16, 7-9)
                  10. Eastern Michigan (8-23, 6-10)
                  11. Northern Illinois (10-19, 5-11)
                  12. Toledo (7-24, 5-11)

Ohio finished last in the East Division at 7-9 record which is equal to the West champion Ball State's record, but three games back of their closest East rival. The Bobcats beat Tulsa in out-of-conference play, but ended the season on a three-game losing streak and lost to their first round foe Western Michigan, 76-62, in Kalamazoo....the Broncos only win over an Eastern Division. Central and Eastern will meet in the 8-9 game with the EMUs beating CMU twice in the regular season.

Second leading scorer Chris Singletary was suspended for the first game but the University.....he got tossed in the first minute of Sunday's season finale against Akron for throwing and landing a punch to the ribs of Akron's Nate Linhart.....and they won without him. Those two have a history between them the last couple of years.....Linhart got the heave ho in the MAC final last year after giving Singletary a shot to the jewels......Who'd a thunk that NIU would shoot 60% from 3pt. range.....Kent shot 50% from the foul line for the game and finally their bigs stepped up in the last minute of the game. I'll post a MAC roundup after I update my crash and burn record from yesterday.
