    MAC HOOPLA -

    Akron (19-10, 9-5 MAC) at Ohio (16-13, 8-6 MAC)
    •Ohio leads series 32-30
•Ohio hosts Green Fever Night at "The Convo" and will also honor its seniors when Akron comes to town in this rematch of the 2010 MAC Championship game which has huge implications for this year's MAC Tournament. Ohio senior DeVaughn Washington has been a real force for the Bobcats in MAC play. He has reached double figures in all but one league contest this season, averaging 13.7 points and shooting 56.7 percent from the field in league contests. Washington recently matched his career-high with 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds in an overtime win at Winthrop. The Akron men's basketball team defeated Buffalo 69-60 on Feb. 26 for their seventh-straight victory overall and seventh-consecutive win at Rhodes Arena. During the Zips' seven-game winning streak, they are out-scoring their opponents 74.7-58.3 (+16.4) while holding a 34.1-32.6 rebounding advantage. Akron is averaging 17.1 assists and just 10.6 turnovers per game. The game will have boundless emotion and an OU win will pull them even in the standings and a tie for the 4th seed in the tournament. It's not all fun and games for the Bobcats who then travel to Miami,OH (tied for 1st in the East Division with Kent) on Saturday. I saw OU shoot 52% @ Kent on Saturday, and they've come up with some big road wins at Buffalo, Kent, and Winthrop while dropping a close one (2pts) at Western Michigan. Akron's steak has come on 5 home wins versus WMU, Ball State, Creighton, Miami,OH and Buffalo and just two road wins at Toledo and BG. A lean to the Bobcats here from me along with Akron possibly be peaking to Friday's rival game @ Kent.

Central Michigan (9-19, 6-8 MAC) at Toledo (4-25, 1-13 MAC)
    • Toledo leads series 52-31
•Toledo will close out the home portion of its schedule when the Rockets host the Chippewas. Just when it appeared Toledo was on the verge of snapping its 10-game losing streak on Saturday evening in Savage Arena, the Rockets were handed a heartbreaking 75-70 (OT) setback by Northern Illinois. Malcom Griffin leads the Rockets with 12.7 ppg...Senior Jalin Thomas (15.8) and freshman Trey Zeigler (16.6) make up the highest scoring tandem of any team in the Mid-American Conference. The two players are the only teammates that rank in the top 10 in scoring average. Zeigler currently ranks third, while Thomas ranks sixth. Zeigler has scored 466 points on the season, second most all time and is just five points behind Dirk Dunbar (1972-73) for the most points by a freshman in CMU history. Neither team can improve their seeding for the MAC tournament, so who is more interested in this game? CMU closes out with Western on the weekend while UT has local rival BG looming. Chipps better not sleep on Toledo.....

Kent State (19-10, 10-4 MAC) at Bowling Green (12-17, 7-7 MAC)
    • Bowling Green leads series 80-65
•Bowling Green returns home to close out the season with the final two regular season games in Anderson Arena history this week. Tuesday night, the Falcons host Kent State for Senior Night. Kent State sits atop the MAC East Division standings with a record of 19-10 overall and 10-4 in league play, tied with Miami. Justin Greene is averaging 15.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest, while shooting 47.5 percent from the floor and blocking 41 shots. There are currently only nine teams in the country that have had at least 12, 20-win seasons in the past 13 years. With a win Kent State would become the 10th team to achieve the feat. Bowling Green has lost five straight following an 84-77 loss at Miami on Saturday. During the current five-game losing streak, the Falcons have struggled to defend the perimeter. Opponents are 47-for-104 (45.2 percent) from long range in the past five games and all five have made at least 40 percent of those attempts. Tuesday's game will be the penultimate regular season game in Anderson Arena before the Falcons move to The Stroh Center next season. A'uston Calhoun leads the team with 12.0 ppg. Kent can take care of business with a win here and Friday to lock up the #1 seed in the MAC Tournament. BG got routed at Kent earlier in the season and the Flashes have been playing well lately, albeit from behind. After a 10-day, four-game 3000 mile road trip, the tired Flashes came from 12 down at the half to sting Buffalo, and trailed OU by 21 with 14 mins to play Saturday to force overtime but eventually lost 88-87. I witnessed the Flashes breakout of a slumber of sorts, and never saw them play better at both ends of the floor than they did in the second half vs. OU. If they come out with that kind of intensity pity poor BG!
