Counts on my forum record because I didn't submit the article in time on Sunday so I posted the pick here.
When handicapping, sports bettors should be totally unbiased.
For example, if the Orioles are your favorite team you should try to leave that fact out of your handicapping.
Some sports bettors tend to look for reasons to bet on the team they like.
It's okay to do if you're betting for entertainment value, wagering small amounts just to have some fun watching and rooting on your favorite team, but when making investment size bets prejudices and biases should be avoided during the handicapping process.
Having said that, I'm totally ignoring this basic rule of 'capping and betting the Over on the number of caution flags at Talladega today.
Because I like rooting for wrecks.
My wager it's not without some merit and thought though. Yesterday's Xfinity race saw five cautions come out and today the books hung a 5' on the race and a decent price of -115.
As stated in my homepage NASCAR article from today:
"I'm also looking for one prop if I can get the right numbers.
I love playing the Ov/Un caution flags prop but the odds aren't out yet.
Three times races at Talladega have seen zero cautions, 1997, 2001, and 2002.
The most caution flags recorded was 11 in 2004.
Be sure to check the PredictEm forum tomorrow. If I get the number flags I want and a good price on it I'll post a play."
Neither of last year's two races would have won this wager.
Each had a total of four caution flags.
But I got the number I wanted and a good price.
And I like watching and rooting for wrecks.
