  • Just saw a very very very dumb stat on ESPN

I sware sometimes I wonder why I or anybody else watches ESPN. When talking about the Lakers, they showed a stat:

When Kobe takes 21 or less shots the Lakers are 14-0 with a 25+ M.O.V., and when he takes more than 21 shots they are just 4-3. Did it every occur to them that they have the cause-effect completely reversed? When they are leading by 15-20, they take Kobe out and he only plays 25-30 minutes. When he only plays 25-30 minutes, he obviously will not shoot 22 times. On the other hand, if they are trailing or if it is a close game, they want the ball in his hands since he is the best player in the league, so he takes a lot more shots and plays closer to 40 minutes. It just bothers me how poorly they can represent a stat...

ESPN loves giving UNBEATEN streaks like 14-0. Gives people something to chew on. They could care less if it's significant or not.
