Recap 1-1
Record 2-2
Review: Missed with the money maker from last year (Over in game two of B2B's), banked a unit with a money maker from this year, Fading WF1 road spots, now 1-5 this season (Phx makes a free throw at the end of the game to give me a one-point win.)
I lost a game last week when I wrote an article recommending an early buy on New York -2'. The line closed at -4' so the early buy was correct, but not enough to spare me from a loss by the hook, as the Liberty won by three.
Part of the reason for the loss was Sabrina Ionescu took and missed two three-point shots in the final minute.
I'm in a forgiving mood today and I'm going to give her a chance to redeem herself.
The books put her points scored at 16' tonight.
She's averaging 15.7 in the Liberty's first three games, a hair Under what I need to play that number Over.
Game one (8 points) she had a poor shooting night, FG 3/12, including 0-5 from three point range.
Game two (16 points) she only played about 66% of her normal minutes.
In NY's last game she played her normal minutes and although she missed a couple threes that hurt me she still put up 23 points.
The expansion Valkyries come into New York to play tonight with a surprising, winning record of 2-1.
BUT . . .
Those wins came against LA (2-3) and Washington (2-3.)
The defending Liberty are on a whole different level than those two teams.
In Q3, New York were up by 10 points over Indiana Saturday morning, and by the end of the quarter they not only blew the lead but were losing by eight points.
In the fourth quarter they were down by 12 but fought back to come away with the two-point win.
A close call like that game serves to keep a team on its toes, and not be slackers, something they will hopefully have in mind tonight as 18 point Favorites. I just hope they're not up by too many and Ionescu doesn't get pulled late in the game to avoid injuries.
My buy:
Ionescu Ov 16', -112
