  • JoePa's Memorial Tournament Picks

On the heels of breaking back into the winning column with a Top 5 winner last week---John Senden---I am struggling to find a winner this week and should probably just look inside last season's President's Cup roster since it was held at Muirfield Village! I don't think it's going to be a good week for the "rookies" again this week, and really feel that a tried and true veteran works his way to the top of the leaderboard for the second week in a row.

JASON DUFNER - 35/1 OUTRIGHT WINNER & 13/2 TOP 5 FINISH - It's been a while since Dufner played The Memorial, but he was a member of the aforementioned Presidents Cup so he knows the course and has played there. Could this be a second straight week of good form, or will be be deflated from his playoff second place finish at the Crowne Plaza last week. He did turn in impressive rounds of 67-69-69-66 last week, has made 10/11 cuts on the season with four Top 10s. He's just unflappable and pretty much just goes about the business of playing golf.....nice, since he majored in economics.

JUSTIN ROSE - 7/2 TOP 5 FINISH - Rose broke through at Muirfield Village in 2010 and Jack was very happy to see this Englishman get the win. He does have 6 Top 15s in 9 starts at The Memorial and his recent form shows he has Top 15 finishes in five of his last 7 starts which includes Euro Tour events. He tied for 14th at The Masters earlier this season, has made 9/10 cuts on the PGA Tour, ranks 1st in eagles, 8th in sand saves and 21st in scoring. I saw flashes of brilliance in him last week in the final round of the BMW Championship.

CHARL SWARTZEL - 10/1 TOP 5 FINISH - He's a perfect 6/6 in cuts made at The Memorial with a career best T8th and held the lead after day one. Swartzel has Top 20s in 4 of his 7 starts this year making 7/9 cuts.....two of those Top 20s are actually Top 10s.

KEVIN CHAPPELL - 10/1 TOP 5 FINISH Finishes a career best 2nd at The Memorial last year to Matt Kuchar with an aggregate -10 and comes off a solid T10th last week at the Crowne Plaza where he shot a 3rd round 63. Chappell has made 13/17 cuts this year and finished T11th (Wells Fargo) T26th (The Players) and T10th (Crowne Plaza) in his last three Tour starts. Currently ranks 31st in GIR, 11th in total driving, 12th in ball striking, 17th in total birdies and 34th in birdie average. He's a 50/1 shot to take the title.....

MICHAEL THOMPSON - 18/1 TOP 5 FINISH - Coming off of a nice performance and rounds of 73-66-69-66 to capture a T10th at the Crowne Plaza where he co-led in par breakers and was 2nd in par 4 scoring. He T8th last season at Muirfield Village, has a T11th earlier this season at Quail Hollow, is ranked 2nd in strokes gained putting, has made 12/15 cuts, has one Top 10 and 6 Top 25s. He's 100/1 shot to win here.....
